Virginia suited 10 players, and they all got substantial playing time. The Hoos outscored American in all four periods. The team was led by Johnson with 22 points and 9 assists in just 21 minutes. Lauterbach looked much improved since last year and led the team with 13 rebounds. In spite of the impressive win, I suspect the coaches will point out that they committed 23 personal fouls

The women's team opens the season tonight at 7 PM on ACC Extra vs American. Really interested to see how the team looks this year with so many new players coming in and returning players like McGhee and Noyan taking on bigger roles. I expect the starters to be Johnson, Clark, Lattimore and Noyan with either McGhee or Hurd as the last starter (likely McGhee given her experience). Hard to know what to expect out of the women's team this year given how competitive the ACC is plus with the experience we lost to graduation and injury (Brown), but lots of exciting young players plus some transfers that have something to prove so hopefully they will continue to build on the last two years.
