Blanco started on the mound for Virginia and pitched six innings. He scattered six hits, but two were home runs which accounted for all three Cardinal runs. His win improved his record to 4--1. Hungate pitched the seventh and eighth innings, and Menk took the mound for the final inning; neither allowed a hit. All three pitchers were aided by a solid fielding effort.
the Cavs knocked out 21 hits, which included 5 home runs with two each by Ford and Ference and one by Becker. Anderson was 5 for 5 at the plate, and Ford and Ference each had 3 hits., and O'Ferrall, Whalen, Hanson, and Becker were all 2 for 5. Virginia led 11 to 3 going into the 9th innings before roughing up Louisville's bullpen for 10 more runs.

Hoos have lost a projected starter to a season ending injury.

Played for Coach Brian Hallenbeck at Menomonee Falls High School • Scored more than 2,000 career points • Gatorade Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball in Wisconsin in 2022 when he led Menomonee Falls to a 25-4 record and Division I sectional finals • Averaged 27.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, 4.4 assists and 2.3 steals as a senior • Greater Metro Conference Player of the Year in 2022 and was a two-time first-team All-Greater Metro Conference honoree • Averaged 23.3 points

When O'Connor brought in Osinski to replace Buchanan on the mound to star the second inning, I began to held my breath. This was not because I did not trust Osinski, but it is often a sign that everyone is pitching. When everyone pitches, there are frequently one or two who are ineffective. I was right on both accounts. Fortunately, as soon as the pitchers started struggling, they were quicky replaced by O'Connor. As a result, we used ten different pitchers who held VCU to single runs in the first and second innings and two runs in the fifth.
After VCU scored in the first, Virginia answered with RBI triples by Stephan and Ferrence and a RBI infield out by Saucke to take a 3-1 lead. VCU took a 4-3 lead in the fifth inning, but the Cavs again answered with a three run home run by Didawick in the bottom of the inning to retake the lead at 6-4. Single runs were scored in the sixth and eighth innings to get to the final score.
Of the ten pitchers for Virginia, Barker, Hungate, Teel and Augustin each pitched at least one inning without allowing a run. Hungate was the winning pitcher to improve to 3-0 this season. O'Ferrall was 3 for 5, and Stephan, Didawick, and Ferrence were all 2 for 4.

Syracuse forward Maliq Brown to enter transfer portal​

Syracuse men's basketball sophomore forward Maliq Brown will enter the NCAA transfer portal, he announced Monday on social media.

Not to steal away from our basketball team's thunder, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Woolfolk try another shot with football.

In baseball, currently he's having a tough year and I'm not sure that's where he has his best future opportunity.

Regardless, just food for discussion.

I watched the NCAA national championship game, and several of the talking heads were stating that Clark could not be considered the best female college player ever if Iowa failed to win the national championship game. Iowa lost after Clark scored 18 points in the first quarter. It was obvious that South Carolina had the best team by a wide margin, and their reserves scored in the vicinity of 36 points while Iowa's bench scored 0. I am not surprised that Clark could not overcome that disparity.

I was really wanting NCSU, but they never really got anything going against Purdue last night. DJ Horne and Ben Middlebrooks seemed the only ones giving it everything they had. McConnell hurting his thigh didn’t help, and Morsell was a no show.

I’m no fan of UConn and their dominance, but I’ll be pulling for them tomorrow. While I have no problem with Purdue or Matt Painter, I like the Big 10 not winning a Natty in 24 years and hope it continues. Even bigger, the redemption story is all ours, I don’t want to share it with Purdue. If they ever win it all, go win it another year when not coming off a 1-16 loss.

Column: Five years ago today, UVa finished off an incredible story in what fans hoped would be the new normal. In the short (and yet also long) time since, much has changed for not only the sport as a whole but for the Wahoos especially.

Probably will not become his first win since the leader by 6 (Bhatia) is playing out of his mind, but McCarthy is in the final pairing and after 4 holes today is 3 up on the next closest competitors. Hope he can keep this up going into the Masters.

Both teams had 13 hits, but Carolina had 3 home runs while Virginia had 11 singles and 2 doubles. Jaxel started on the mound for Virginia and gave up 2 runs in the first inning and 4 runs in the second. Virginia scored 3 in the sixth to get a tie at 6 each, but the Heels scored 3 in both the 7th and 8th innings to take the lead for good.
Tonas and Kampschror had good outings in relief. Tonas followed Jaxel and pitched 3.2 innings and gave up 2 hits and no runs. Kampschror pitched the 9th and retired all three batters, two on strike outs.
Whalen had 3 hits for the Cavs, and O'Ferrall, Saucke, Ford, and Anderson each had 2 hits.
This was a disappointing loss, but I think the coaching staff is getting a better idea about whom they can trust on the mound.

Big series win tonight against the Heels. Hopefully they have figured out how to deal with the unfortunate injuries to key members of the pitching staff. Good bats and defense helps, but you still need arms to throw strikes.

Portal Roundup: @HoustonWilson begins a series of stories on players in the portal that UVa is looking to bring in for visits and potential add to its roster. Today we break down where things stand with three players that have heard from the Hoos.

Blanco started and pitched 6.1 innings and gave up both Heel runs on 2 solo home runs by Honeycutt. Osinski came in relief and allowed a single to the only batter that he faced. Coady came out of the bull pen and pitched the last 2.2 innings in which he allowed just one single. Virginia jumped out to a three run lead in the first when Didawick hit a home run with Saucke and Ford on base. Carolina narrowed the lead to 3-1 in the third on the first of Honeycutt's homers and to 3-2 on his second home run in the sixth inning. Anderson led off the seventh with a home run, and the Cavs added two more runs in the inning when a single by Saucke drove in Hanson and O'Ferrall who had each walked. Anderson hit another lead off home run in the eighth inning to end the scoring.
Anderson was 3 for 4 with his two solo home runs, Saucke was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI, and Didawick was 1 for 3 with his three run home run.
Blanco was credited with the win, and Coady got his first save with Virginia.

I always come away impressed with TE after hearing his media conferences. He knows each position intricately, as probably most head coaches do, but seems to take it to another level. He is very open with the media on what he sees and what needs improvement, inclusive of coaching. I think it's very refreshing to hear more than simple one line coach speak interviews.

I'm hopeful that, now in his 3rd year, the coaches and players are more in sync with the routines, expectations, fundamentals, etc. such that they can take coaching to another level beyond year 1 - deer in headlights for coaches and players, year 2 - overcoming adversity and building off year 1 teaching/routines and now year 3 - building off of an established culture. Fingers crossed.

The early pitchers for both team struggled with control. The Heels got the lead in the first when they loaded the bases on two walks and a hit batter before two scored on a double. Virginia answered in the bottom of the inning on a single by O'Ferrall, a hit batter and a walk and a grand slam into the bull pen by Ford. Another walk and a two run home run by Hanson gave Virginia a 6-2 lead. Two walks followed by two singles by UNC in the second inning narrowed the lead o 6-4. Carolina added seven runs in the third inning on two walks and six hits to take a 11-6 lead. Six of the Heels first eight runs were scored by batters who had been walked.
Virginia narrowed the lead in the fourth on a solo home run by Becker (his first collegiate homer). Virginia added three more runs in the fifth, and a solo home run by Ford in the sixth tied the score at 11. In the eighth inning Virginia took the lead on Ford's third home run of the game. A walk and doubles by Ference and Anderson gave Virginia two more insurance runs.
Barker was the third Virginia pitcher when he came with two outs in the third inning. He got the final out and then pitched shut out ball in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings. Osinski pitched the seventh and got one out in the eighth; after giving up a hit, he was replaced by Tonas, who struck out the only batter he faced. Augustin replaced Tonas and retired the last four Carolina batters.to earn the win.
Ford provided the offensive spark for the Cavs with his three home runs and six RBI as Virginia scored 14 runs on just 10 hits.
