Thankful that the Kihei Clark era is over.

Almost two years ago I stopped attending and watching UVA basketball games. My frustration with Tony’s use of Clark was more then I cared to deal with. I did however track some of the games on the internet and on this site. No question, Kihei is a decent ball player and he has achieved some admirable stats. However I believe the trade off (over the past few seasons)has been a net negative to the overall team performance.
The two guard offense that CTB ran last season was supported by front line of NBA talent. And what did we a achieve, an early elimination from the NIT. Wow!
I look forward to next season. I hope most of our guys return. But most importantly I hope CTB reflects on his performance as our coach. He can and must do better.
I’ll we watching and attending.
Go HOOS!

Miami IU game

Miami beats IU comfortably scoring 85 points to 69. Least the acc got one team in the sweet 16. Got a difficult draw coming up with Houston and Texas if they make the EE. Miami plays REAL small ball, playing quick and looking to score. Nothing like our small ball—different speed than Clark, BVP, Gardner and company. High speed and no hesitation to shoot, continuously looking to score.

Big 10 with their typical stellar NCAAT showing…

8 bids (no conference had more). 6 teams already out, with 2 to play today.

At what point are these computer rankings that rank that league so high during the season, going to be tweaked?

And I’m not advocating that the ACC should have gotten more in this year. Clearly we haven’t made a case that more should have gotten in than did.

NCSU takes game 3 5 -4 in 9th

Virginia scored in the 1st on O'Donnell's single and a triple by Gelof. The Pack had two solo home runs in the second to take a 2-1 lead. There was no more scoring until the 9th. O'Ferrall led of with a double and scored on a home run by Gelof. Teel followed with another home run to give the Cavs a 4-2 lead. After 2 were out in the bottom of the 9th, NCSU scored 3 runs for the win. The top four in or batting lineup were responsible for all 6 of our hits and all of the runs.

Final: Women's Swimming wins 3rd straight NCAA Championship

Really amazing insight into these women, staff, and approach to what has helped make them not only the best in the NCAA, but among the best in the world - and getting better.

NCAA's start tomorrow. Hopefully this provides even more appreciation for not only what the superstars do, but the entire team(s) together. Going to be tough to win a 3rd-straight title, but certainly possible.
Big week for swimming and hoops...

Furman was blown out by 23pts(would have been 26; Furman hit a 3 with seconds left)by a San Diego State team; what could have been Tony.

Just saw SDState blew out Furman by 23 pts, 75 to 52. What could have been.

I hope Bennett reevaluates his long leash policy with an individual player that showed questionable decisions in ball management throughout his time and especially the last two seasons as an upper class player.

We lost to them?!?!?!

I bet Beekman wishes he had never passed the ball back in that corner.

Cavs feast on Wolfpack's relief pitchers and take game 2 7-0

Virginia had doubles in the 3rd, 4th and 5th did not score but did not score until the latter when Stephon led off with his double, moved up on a sacrifice by Godbout, and came home on an infield out by Didawick. The Cavs broke the game open in the 8th until facing a reliever in the 8th, O'Ferrall led off with a walk, O'Donnell sacrificed him to 2nd, and Gelof drove him in with a double. He came in on a no-doubt home run by Teel. Anderson then singled and scored on a single by Stephon to bring the score to 5--0. Virginia added 2 more runs in the 9th when O'Ferrall reached on a tw0-base error by the 3rd baseman and scored on a double by O'Donnell, who then scored on another double by Gelof.
Edgington started and won by going 6.1 innings and allowing just 4 singles. He was follwed by Blanco, Jaxel, Tonas, and Woolfolk. The shutout was preserved in the 8th when the Pack got a double, but the runner was thrown out at home by O'Donnell on an excellent throw and tag by Teel on the single that followed.
Virginia had 10 hits which included 7 doubles and Teel's home run.

I went back saw 35.1 secs left McKneely is fouled, elevated, doesn't take easy layup but flips it back to Shed, awarded 1&1,instead 2,

misses the 1&1.

Went back and was watching the game and I saw McKneely had the ball and drove the baseline, beat two guys, #1, #5 and was fouled (35.1 seconds left in the game) as he was going up, elevating right at the backboard and rim, you hear the whistle, he had a clear layup, was directly under the basket when he was in the air looking right an easy layup, but at the last second he turns his head and throws it back to Shedrick in the lane who dunks it.

So he passed on the right under the basket easy layup when he was in the air and because he turns his head and throws it back to Shedrick, he's awarded a one and one shot that he misses the shot and they get the ball. HUGE MISTAKE.

He will have to be smart enough to know when you are in the air and have a clean bunny shot, that if you miss you will get two shots regardless. Big Blunder, maybe nerves but I saw that and backed it up and he looks like he is going to shoot it wide open, then he turns his head and passes it to Shedrick who dunks it.

Lot's of mistakes down the stretch by both players and coaches, just saw this one and couldn't believe that wide open in the air less than two feet from the rim and you know they blew the whistle you have to put up the shot.

The score was 66-63 and you had one of the easiest layups all night and you for whatever reason decided to pass on the shot after the whistle and go take the 1&1 instead. McKneely had to know Shedricks Dunk was only for show.

Saw that Bud Grant passed away at 95 years old

For those old enough to remember Bud Grant, with that steely eyed stare across the field, he had an interesting life, joined the Navy during WWII.

He was offered both NFL and NBA draft opportunities and originally took the NBA route with the Minnesota Lakers. He played for them a couple of seasons and was on the championship team. As of 2022, was the oldest NBA champion listed still alive.

He then left for the NFL and played for the Philadelphia Eagles and was a 6'3", 199lbs, DE and lead the team in sacks, but switched over to play WR and was second in the league that second season with 997 yards on 56 catches. Philadelphia didn't want to pay him what he thought he was worth and he went North to Canada and played with the CFL Winnipeg Bombers From 1953-1956 as an "Offensive End" and was a three time all-star. The guy was Mr. Utility man.

Then he coached the Winnipeg Bombers as a head coach from 1957-1967 and during that time he took the Bombers to 6 grey cup games (Canada's Super Bowl) and won four of them (58,59,61,62) He stayed on as coach until he was Lured into taking the Minnesota Vikings head coaching job in 1967.

As head coach of the Minnesota Vikings from 1967-1985, lead them to 1st place in their conference 11 times. Went to the Super Bowl 4 times and never won it. Finished his coaching career at Minnesota with a record of 158-96-5. His combined career with Winnipeg and Minnesota was 260-152-7.

A statue was erected in Winnipeg of Bud and he was inducted into their ring of honor. He is the first coach to lead a Canadian team to the Grey Cup and US team to the Super Bowl. Marv Levy was the only other NFL/Candian coach to do that.

Grant was still listed as a consultant to Minnesota Vikings up until he died.

To say this guy lived a full life is an understatement. May he rest in peace!
