Indifference - a terrible state

Like most fans on this board, I am very passionate about UVA sports. Football has always been the biggie, and I have been known to have some childish tantrums when we lose. After the game against Boise State, my wife commented, "Wow, you took that well!"... and it hit me...I have given up hope and have no expectations of us winning in football. Therefore, the loss was expected and nothing to get worked up about, and THAT is what sucks. I don't care anymore. Now, don't misunderstand, I will watch all the remaining games, cheer for the team and hope that they can somehow turn things around, but I am lost! Done! Fried! Cooked! But, worst of all, I have become indifferent to football as I eagerly await basketball season. That is the true tragedy!

Recruiting classes rankings vs development UVA vs Boise State

per rivals

year UVA Boise
2010 67 82
2011 25 53
2012 27 54
2013 28 62
2014 41 65
The product on the field of both teams are the result of the above 5 recruiting classes. Obviously, although Boise does not recruit as well as UVA their recruits are certainly being developed much better. To me, besides our losing records this is London's biggest failure, lack of PLAYER DEVELOPMENT. How bad would Boise beat us if they had our recruiting and we had to play on their blue field? Would they break a 100?

Offensive line play...lack of talent or sche

I am really struggling with coming to grips or understanding why the offensive line play has been so bad in the running game. Is it talent, scheme, or a mixed bag? There are little to no holes for our RB's to run through, every play inside the tackle box is stoned at the line of scrimmage, is the talent on the oline really that lacking? I have a hard time beleving that is the case. There is talent at RB, but with no holes there is no running game. I think Borbs is a solid line coach so does it all come down to offensive scheme?

Our next coach

Our next coach- I wouldn't come into the program until there are changes at the top. This whole staff is gone. A decent coach could win 6 games with this talent. We have players, but we are one of the poorest coached teams I have seen. Our players don't get better under this staff, a few guys at best. We better be looking around the country right now to start compiling names starting in December.

This Game

has shown everything wrong with the program under London the last few years: Penalties, missed tackles, dumb mistakes, etc.

Nationally televised game at home and we're getting abused and pushed around the ring tonight.

Teams can't WAIT to play us because they know we'll just shoot ourselves in the foot and give the game to them.

Not really even mad anymore, just disappointed. And we still have to endure 8 more games of this.

I hope our AD is watching this embarrassment.

I can not take the excuse making any more

Please everyone, open your eyes. It does not matter who this man plays, Idaho, WnM, Richmond, Alabama, FSU, Notre Dame, it is the same product. It has been 6 years now. We have seen the same mistakes after the same mistakes after the same mistakes. We have seen the same dejected and demoralized team each and every year, yes, even 2011 during the last 2-3 games. We made that bowl game off Groh's recruits and the practices didn't help. We had the cupcake schedule that year and barely escaped Idaho and Indiana. It didn't work. I have seen this man play Richmond and the game is too competitive. I have seen this man play Idaho and the game is too competitive. William and Mary.....

What the hell were they doing before the second half? I have been to dozens of football games both NCAA and NFL and I have never seen a team come out to the endzone and do leg kicks. People sitting next to me were like, what is that?

Teams are dejected and demoralized because they do not believe in their leadership. This team lives the awful truth, they know Mike London can not make them a winning team. They are not dejected and demoralized because they lost a close game to a top team. I have seen enough teams lose close games to top teams and then turn around and show their worthiness the rest of the year to know that that is just a fantastic excuse born out of delusion. We need to stop deluding ourselves. I know that we as fans can not make the change but if we just accept the truth and voice our displeasure enough we can indirectly cause the change.

Please, stop making excuses everyone.

Tentua isn't going to change his scheme, so we have to hope we play better

Sometimes as a coach you go down with what you know. As a press heavy basketball coach even when I've had teams that were not as capable of playing that style I never wavered because that's what I know. Will Tony Bennett ever do anything other than a pack line? Of course there are some things that I would want JT to do a little different, but at the end of the day we are going to go down fighting with this aggressive scheme so the coaching staff really needs the players to buy in and hope we can get a pass rush worth anything. I went back and watched the first three games and consistently I see quarterbacks having 4-5 seconds to throw the football or getting it out of their hands quick. When the ball is getting out of their hands quickly our staff needs to repeatedly tell our defensive linemen to get their hands up (Groh taught this well) and when teams are trying to go deep we have to get a pass rush because I don't care if you're Deion Sanders you're not going to cover that long if your defensive seven isn't getting to the QB. I just hope we see improvement because we are going to go down blitzing :)

Most Telling Quote From CML Postgame.

“You have to be able to bounce back from these things. It’s about how you respond. They got seven points just like that and it started to snowball from there."

The team gets demoralized after a 7 pt deficit? At that point is where it snowballs?

This is coaching, fellas. If you cant inspire confidence, if you can't keep the team from losing it after one friggin play, that's when it's time to go. The same thing happened to Groh. It's happened here.

Players take their cues from their leaders. London is a child among men when it comes to coaching. Just look at his body language. It's the same as it was in his first year. Frazzled, hyperactive, and ultimately dejected

Boise State/UVa game thread...

Greetings from Charlottesville where the clouds have been steady but the rain has held off so far. We're about 65 minutes from the kickoff and the rumor is that the Wahoos will be sporting some new lids tonight. From what I've seen of guys on the field, it'll be orange jerseys and navy pants to round out the look.

As always, have at it folks!

WAR ROOM-- 9.25.15

The WAR ROOM is back and this special edition is full of football recruiting scoop! The Wahoos have a big one tonight in Scott Stadium as they host Boise State under the lights on national television. While it'll obviously be a big opportunity for the Cavaliers to impress recruits near and far thanks to the ESPN broadcast, there will also be visitors in the stands that are worth pointing out. Since it's Friday night and a lot of recruits are playing tonight as well, the Hoos are expecting to host a couple of committed guys and a couple of intriguing juniors in addition to one key official visitor who could very well be the next member of Virginia's 2016 class. We'll give you the background on that and tell you how we think that one will play out as well as touch on a potential incoming transfer that could really move the needle. How excited should fans be at this point about that possibility? We'll break it down for you and tell you how we see that one unfolding down the road.

As always, what's said in the War Room, stays in the War Room. Let's go!

Several visitors expected tonight

Virginia has a big opportunity tonight when the Hoos host Boise State. And not only will it likely be a packed house with a lot of energy for a rare night game at David A. Harrison III Field but it will be a game that will be nationally televised. Of course, since it's Friday, there will be a lot of recruits that will be at their own games. But that doesn't mean Virginia won't be able to host some prospects.

The group tonight will include a pair of UVa commits in three-star quarterback Sonny Abramson and offensive lineman Dillon Reinkensmeyer. In addition, the Wahoos will host George Brown, a 6-foot, 283-pound junior defensive tackle from Chancellor, and three-star junior defensive back Stu Head, a 6-foot-4, 190-pound safety from Woodstock (GA) Etowah. His offer list already includes Cal, Clemson, Duke, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Nebraska, North Carolina, Stanford, Vanderbilt, and Virginia Tech, among others.

But the visitor to watch this "weekend" (especially since Abramson will be in town tonight) is three-star official visitor Kenny Ruff. The 6-foot-1, 236-pound Fort Lauderdale (FL) Dillard linebacker has a pretty solid offer list with Clemson, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, NC State, Purdue, Rutgers, and South Carolina on his list, among others. His visit will run Thursday to Saturday because of the Friday night game and all signs point to the Cavaliers getting this one done. This has all the vibes of a "come see your desk" type of job interview. And it's understandable that a kid from the Sunshine State might want to actually see things before he commits, much like three-star running back LaDerrien Wilson did a couple of weeks ago.

It's worth noting that Virginia, in addition to a few camp guys, is also expecting Charlottesville, Covenant, Albemarle, Western Albemarle, and Monticello to be there tonight with their teams.

Is Clark a legit option?

If and when Ruff decides to make the call and join the UVa football family, that'll give the Wahoos 25 commits in the class of 2016. While there are no Taquan Mizzell or Quin Blanding types, it's a group of solid prospects. The only true weakness in the class might be at defensive tackle, where the Cavaliers could really use at least one commit. Considering we've heard that UVa could take as many as 27 in this class, that leaves a little wiggle room.

Which is why the news this week that former Rivals100 tight end Chris Clark was back on the recruiting radar is worth noting. And we can't put the emphasis more on "paying attention to" rather than "getting excited about," at least right now.

If you remember Clark's saga during his recruiting days in the class of 2015, you'll recall that the now former UCLA tight end traversed quite the recruiting roller coaster. The nation's top tight end and No. 79 overall in the class, the four-star Connecticut native committed three times during his recruitment, beginning at first in a shocker to North Carolina in March 2014 (just days after being very excited about a visit to Charlottesville, for the record). That commitment held for about three weeks, if that long given the calls he had to have taken to start lining up visits. He took a trip to Notre Dame short thereafter and said he was "kinda open" but didn't consider himself a decommit. That was until June when he said he had a top four of Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, and UNC. About 10 days later, he committed to Michigan and told our UM site that the biggest reason he wanted to commit then was so that he could recruit for the Wolverines and that even though he wasn't supposed to announce again for a weeks he "didn't want to miss out." He was pretty emphatic that he was done with the recruiting process.

Fast forward to October and, with Brady Hoke squarely on the hot seat, Clark begins to look around again. After an official visit to Chapel Hill, he backed out of his Michigan verbal on December 2, which admittedly coincided with UM firing Hoke. Still, he picked up the pieces of his recruitment and got things going again, this time eventually landing at UCLA on Signing Day following a visit there in January.

Now, after being on campus for a very short amount of time and not having been a Bruin very long, he's already decided to leave, gotten his release, and is planning visits with a decision timeline that he'd like to wrap up in early November. If Clark Griswold was here, he'd be asking for the Tylenol by now.

We took you through all of that history to underscore what we hope is obvious: Please be very careful about hopes and expectations on this one. This is a situation where (and we're not just being coy or funny) you need to just let the process play out. And we mean all the way out. Like arrives in Grounds and has been seen in an actual class. Okay, maybe not quite that far but you get the gist.

Clark says he is going to visit three ACC schools in the coming weeks: Pitt, UVa, and NC State. His release from UCLA originally prohibited him from going to Michigan, Michigan State, or OSU, but UCLA has since removed those restrictions (none of those schools appears to be an option). So, it's likely going to be a school on the east coast that eventually lands the tight end prospect. At this point, it doesn't look like Notre Dame will be an option but with Clark's history, who knows what will stick. Maryland seems to be a potential landing spot as well but as of yet, no visit has been scheduled.

If his visit schedule holds, it means he'll actually get to see UVa twice. Well, at least on the field. He's supposed to see the Panthers on the weekend of October 9, which is when the Cavaliers will be in town. He's scheduled to come to Charlottesville the following weekend, as the Wahoos will be hosting Syracuse.

For now, our advice (and we may be begging a bit here) is to sit back and let this one unfold without much investment either way. Do yourself a solid and don't breathlessly follow the ins and outs here. Maybe Clark can find a school closer to home and settle in, becoming a very productive player once he enrolls for the second semester and sits out the 2016 season. And maybe that school will be UVa. But for now, it's impossible to forecast how this one will play out other than to say it's probably going to have lots of peaks and lots of valleys.

That is it for this week, and as always, what's said here, stays here!

Am I the only one? ...

Treating tomorrow night as the in-out marker for the season?

I will be at Rooftop in Arlington supporting the Hoos, but absent an upset, feel this is my last stand for the 2015 season. This may be a little unfair with the three quality opponents we have faced thus far. However, with two of those at home, combined with the lackluster showing last week against a far inferior opponent, I just feel like this is their chance to either pull me in or for me to officially start my basketball season.

Anyone else?

I just purchased Athlon's College Basketball magazine.

Two things that I immediately noticed - 1) UVA is picked #5 in the country and to lose to #4 Maryland in the NCAA quarterfinals and 2) three coaches were selected as retreads that will not work, and two are former UVA coaches; I have no problem with Leitao at DePaul, but the second is McKay at Liberty, and the reasoning was that he has only had one NCAA appearance in his thirteen years as a head coach, but they do not mention that these years were at smaller schools.
