It is not likely that anyone, including our coaching staff, knows what our roster will look like in 2021, but we can make some guesses. What we can surmise is that seven players from 2020 are not going to be on the roster. Harrington and Sperling have opted to not return. Five players who played very little have transferred out - Agee, Hoopes, Jenkins, Petri, and Sleight.
We have eleven commitments coming in. Channing Austin (3B/RHP), Jake Berry (LHP), Addie Burrow (OF), David Coppedge (SS), Jake Gelof (IF/OF), Alex Greene (OF), Connor Hincks (SS), Avery Mabe (RHP), Rece Richey (LHP/OF), Luke Schauer (LHP), and Kyle Teel (C). Among these, it will be surprising if any other than Teel will get regular starting time. This is not because these first years lack talent but rather due to the depth of talent of our returning players. I suspect that Gelof and Berry will get some playing time. The latter is 6'10" and is an interesting prospect.
We have the following returners who got some playing time last season: OF - Hlinka, Lebreux, Newell, Rivoli, Sullivan, and Tappen; IF - Cotier, Gelof, Kent, and Ortiz; C - Ballestro and Hamrock; P -Abbott, Bales, Holdorovich, McGarry, Messinger, Savino, Schoch, Vasil, and Whitten. Neeck is a good prospect who was hurt last year.
It will be interesting to see which players rise to the challenge. This should be a fun team to watch.
