This is horrible and shows the level of vigilance we should ALL have, especially in large cities with an expensive car, and expensive watches, jewelry and knowing your surroundings at all times. As someone that provided executive protection in my career and even directly hired on as a Security Director to set up Royal Saudi Family/Prince in his Saudi home, palace and other buildings/business he owns; to set up executive training for his security teams, Security systems and lighting, now more than ever in big cities all over the world and US are deemed unsafe for even casual travelers.
I had a buddy that's 6'3" was a block or so away from Paris Airport when a 20's something year old in a hoodie; approx. 5'8"/5'9", started crossing the street and kept eyeing him around his hoodie. Mark, told me from his training when he worked for me in the military and in law enforcement/Security services, he didn't look right and decided to stop put the handle down on his carry on luggage and carry it and as the male stepped up on the sidewalk, at the intersect point, he pulled out a knife and started to attempt to stab him and he fought the guy off with his hard luggage and luckily several French men yelled at the guy from down the street. He basically ran away after numerous failed attempts to stab Mark and Mark fought him off, using the luggage as a shield. The two French males escorted Mark the rest of the way to the airport. He will not go back to Paris because of this incident.
I recommend people take classes on self defense and those that do know self defense or martial arts need to keep active. I just told my wife this past week, I really need to get back in the gym and get myself back up to par on my training with what's going on.
I know this is a UVA board, but we also need to look out for one another. It's too late to know how to fight off an attacker on the day you are attacked.
Even in Sydney AU were I live part time, the last time or the time before we arrived and three Chilean Migrants were on the news that night attempting to steal a fit 60 year old dressed up Aussie lady and take her purse and handbag. The video showed they had drug her 20 ft on the sidewalk, but she didn't let the bag go so they too off around a corner. The thing is, Sydney like London have cameras all over the place in the CBD and in less than two days the news showed these three standing in front of a Judge and deported out of the country that same day and had their work visas revoked permanently. They don't play around with you down under.
Here's the write up on Robinson I cut and pasted. Be safe my UVA brothers and sisters!
Robinson was one of the shining new comers on the team. Truly sad and they really have to find and prosecute this person that did this!
Washington Commanders rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr. was shot multiple times on Sunday evening during an attempted robbery, law enforcement sources told NBC4 Washington.
Robinson Jr.'s injuries from the shooting are non-life threatening, sources close to the situation told NBC Sports Washington's JP Finlay.
The incident occurred in Northeast Washington on the 1000 block of H Street, D.C. police told NBC4. The suspects tried to take Robinson Jr.'s Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat, upon which a scuffle ensued and the shots were fired. Robinson Jr. was taken to an area hospital following the incident.
