Brogdon Garners NABC Defensive Player of the Year Honors
Senior guard spearheaded UVA’s second-ranked defense

Virginia guard Malcolm Brogdon (Atlanta, Ga.), a consensus first-team All-American, has been selected as the 2016 NABC Coaches’ Division I Defensive Player of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Thursday (March 31).

Brogdon will receive his award at the AT&T NABC Guardians of the Game Awards Show on Sunday, April 3, at the Cullen Theater at Wortham Center in Houston at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Brogdon is the first player in history to be named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in the same season. He spearheaded the Cavaliers’ second-ranked defense that allowed just 60.1 points per game. Brogdon, who often guarded the opponent’s top offensive player, blocked nine shots and had 35 steals.

He was also an outstanding offensive player, averaging a career-high 18.2 points. Brogdon, a three-time All-ACC first team selection and two-time All-American, finished his career ranked ninth at UVA with 1,809 points and is ranked first in Cavaliers’ history for free throw shooting at 87.6 percent.
