Watching teams and OUR team I notice we seem to lack in arm strength in the outfield when throwing in the ball from mid field. Watching Newell put his whole body into it and throw such a poor throw in to home with no zip on the ball and way off line, along with guys that have issues with tracking the ball or staying with the ball up to the fence, had me thinking about the current situation of the game in college baseball.

Are they good batters that the team are plugging them into a position slot and an average outfielder? Don't get me wrong I've seen some of the other top teams and even average teams that have outfielders that will stay with the ball all the way to the fence, and have an arm to take it from middle of the field to home plate, but I've seen teams this year where they don't. Newell had a short field catch that had a second base runner waiting to tag up and took off to 3rd. Newell didn't even attempt to throw to third but rather flipped it to Oferrall that came out of infield area to receive the relay. Just don't get that.

Last Question. What is the problem with our team not knowing how to wait on the bag and be ready to run on the tag up. Three times yesterday, I watched Oferrall, Anderson and it was someone else that were either on first or second base with one out, ball hit deep and they ALL ran off the bag about half way to the next bag, stood, watched, knowing the ball was going to be caught, then trotted back to the original bag. WHY??????????? This is simple 101 baseball and we seem to be a team that has a problem with staying at the bag when you know it is a pop up out and running on the catch. Wasted opportunities to run off base when the ball is going to be caught deep. Wait, it's DUMB!

Anderson and Oferrall also got caught this year either in same game or back to back games where they both were on 3rd base, one out, and the grounder is hit right to shortstop player close to third and they leave the bag early thinking the shortstop is throwing to first and got caught in a run down because they weren't focused and didn't wait until the shortstop player was throwing to first. OK to lay off bag, a little but to run on only one out is not bright, assuming he's going to throw to first.

Just some questions for people that have played or are currently playing what's up with the lack of arm from outfielders compared to 20 or 30 years ago players and why players leave the bag on one out on deep flies to only come back, instead of foot on bag ready to run on the catch deep. Thanks!
