Virginia got off to a sluggish start, but the situation improved when Groves hit 5 of 6 three pointers in the first half. He added another in the second half to finish the game 6 of 8, and his 18 points were second to Beekman, who made 4 of 7 from deep and scored 21 points. McKneely was 3 of 5 from behind the arc and added 11 points to the books. These three scored all of Virginia's three point shots, and the team ended with 13 of 25. Beekman also led the team with 6 assists and 4 steals. In spite of the shooting by the Cavs, Notre Dame was even better percentage wise, but Virginia had 10 more attempts primarily because Virginia forced 10 more turnovers. The win moved Virginia into 3rd place in the ACC standings.
