I thought we looked much better in several areas and think we might be getting better.

We just weren't ready for the opening kick return of 60 yards, and we were off balance for a quick score, but otherwise, the defense shut them down. The defense played a solid game against a high scoring offense, with a great RB, great QB and 4 out of 5 returning linemen. I thought we tackled better, played tougher and bent but didn't break. That kind of red zone defense will win games.

On offense, ball security seemed much better. We used Thompson more and had success. Perris was an animal. Armstrong and those 2 guys played really tough as well. Rolling out gave Armstrong some additional time the offensive line couldn't provide. Unfortunately, Armstrong's accuracy, particularly on medium to long throws, still needs improvement.

Special teams was the disaster. Opening kick off of 60 yards. 2 missed field goals, either of which could have been the winning points. A missed PAT.

Despite the special teams miscues, we were one incidental face mask from winning.

A loss is a loss, but if we're improving this year, and if Elliott's schemes are being installed for expected future success, we are getting somewhere.
