With Paris 2024 this Summer, several UVA swimmers are positioning well for Olympic Team spots - both US and international - and medal contention.
The year's first Pro Series meet was in Knoxville this week, where Kate just swam the 5th-fastest time in history and set new American and US Open records (US Open is the fastest time swum in an American pool, regardless of nationality), a pretty amazing swim for a January meet.
In a strong women's meet field, she also won the 100 Freestyle. Douglass still trains at UVA, though has graduated, so doesn't swim in UVA meets this year.
Claire Curzan (also training at UVA, but not eligible for the NCAA team due to transfer) won the 200 Backstroke and finished 2nd in the 100 Back. She'll be in the fight for the Olympic Team in a handful of events.
Gretchen Walsh won the 100 Butterfly, finished 2nd to Kate in the 100 Free, and continues to progress toward Olympic medal contention.
Alex Walsh - 2020 Tokyo Olympic Silver medalist in the 200 IM (Kate won Bronze that year) - swam one of the 3 fastest times in the world this year, finishing 2nd only to Canadian phenom Summer McIntosh in the 200IM.
The women's team is still favored to win its 4th-straight NCAA title, as Alex Walsh, Gretchen Walsh, and Ella Nelson continue to anchor the team along with several other standouts.
