Every Virginia starter had at least 1 hit and 1 run as Virginia scored early and often. Ferrence led the hit parade with 1 single, 1 triple, 2 home runs, and 3 RBI in five trips to the plate. O'Ferrall was also 4 for 5 with 2 doubles, and 2 RBi. Saucke was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI; Ford was 2 for 3 with a home run and 3 RBI; and Didawick was 2 for 5 with a double and a home run and 5 RBi.
McKay was effectively wild starting on the mound. He pitched 5 innings to get the win but gave up 3 hits, 2 walks, and 2 hit batters and both Pitt runs. Hungate and Kampschror each pitched 1 inning.
