Most would say that it was good. Thaiss was 3 for 12; Novak and Simmons were 4 for 12, Smith was 5 for 15 with 2 homers, Clement was 6 for 15 with a HR, Pinero was 5 for 12 with a HR, Haseley was 6 for 13, and Gerstenmaier was 6 for 11 with a HR. On the other hand, we left a total of 26 runners on base in the 3 games. It can be argued that a team is not likely to leave many runners on base if they are not getting hits, but 1 or 2 more timely hits could have made a very big difference in the outcome of the tournament.
Having said that, I hasten to add that I am very proud of this team. Several times during the year it would have been very easy for some of the players to have mailed in the next few games, but they refused to do so. We lost our last two games, but it was not because any of our players were not trying.
