The article was primarily about pitching, which is not surprising considering our losses from last year. He wrote that Jones, Haseley, Doyle, Grounds, Eason, and Lynch are now being considered for starting slots. There was no mention of Casey. I do not know if that means he will not pitch this year or is just not yet ready to be a starter because of his surgery. Bettinger and Doherty were discussed as possible closers. Smith, Coman, and Thaiss were named as possible starters at first base, but it was stated that Smith has spent about half of his practice time in left field. Haseley will probably start in center field when he is not pitching with Dozier, McCarthy, and Simmons also competing for a starting slot. There will also be competition at third base with Karstetter, Weber, and Eikhoff. It appears that Pinero and Clement have shortstop and second base nailed down. There was no mention of Cody or Gerstenmaier, but I do not know if anything can be read into their omission from the article. I suspect that we will have a better idea of the lineup in a few weeks.
