UVA lost a 1961 graduate and the first recipient of a full baseball scholarship at UVA. After graduating he was drafted by Pittsburgh but injured his arm running into the wall at Forbes Field. He went on to a career with NASA and won several prestigious awards. He coached Little League teams in York County as well as the Yorktown American Legion team.
