Anderson had 2 home runs, and Saucke, Didawick, Godbout, and Becker had 1 each. The Hokies scored 1 run in the first inning, and the Cavs tied the score in the second inning thanks to Didawick's home run. Virginia went off script in the third and scored 3 runs on 5 singles to take a 4 - 1 lead. The team added 5 runs in the fourth on 3 home runs and 2 more runs in the fifth on Anderson's second home run. Tech scored twice in the sixth before Godbout's two run home run ended the scoring.
Savino was the starting pitcher and pitched 5 innings and faced 1 batter in the sixth inning to get the win. He allowed 4 hits and 2 runs. He was relieved by Barker, who gave up 2 hits and 1 run. Osinski got the final out in the sixth He walked the first batter in the seventh, but a double play and a routine fly ball to right ended Hokie hopes. Every position player for Virginia had at least 1 of the team's 14 hits.
The win gave Virginia another point in the Commonwealth Clash and delighted this old Hoo.
