This article highlights JMU’s very high student athletic fees - “JMU’s undergraduate tuition is $30,790 per year for out-of-state students and $13,576 per year for in-state students. The mandatory student fee, which is included in those totals, is $5,662 for 2024.”

But it’s also interesting to see who else is on the top 10 list.
It’s predominately schools in the southeast who are mid-majors and using rising sports departments to build their brand and the perception of the university as a top tier degree. And then there’s UVA…who can’t get enough from their alumni I guess and just pile it on the students.
It’s pretty amazing what a high-profile sports program can do. Since Deion Sanders arrived, Colorado has seen a 20% increase in applications and 50% increase from black students. Landing on College Gameday, making a March Madness run, etc does get the attention of high school students and/or their parents. Gotta’ wonder how far you can push that investment onto students though. At least three Virginia schools will be the first to find out I guess.
