I'm heartbroken and angry. No rational explanation will convince me that the NCAA doesn't have it out against UVA's brand of basketball, since we got paired against a well-coached MSU team that plays well against a similarly oriented defensive-minded team in UW.
That said, these last two years have been the best two years of UVA ball I can remember. I wasn't paying attention much as a kid in the early 90s. I wish we could've sent Darion out on a high note a little later. JA's injury killed a lot of mojo and we didn't have time to gel with him again. But this team tied the all-time wins for a season for UVA, put on some defensive clinics, and was chock full of highlights. UVA is here to stay.
I'm eager to see what Darius Thompson brings in terms of ball-handling and shooting ability. I'm hoping Gill can work on the shooting touch in the off-season and turn in a Mike Scott-like performance. I'm hoping like hell that Mike Tobey eats nothing but raw bloody steak and lifts weights and works on catching drills all season (and I'm a vegetarian!). I'm hoping we can figure out what's gotten into Evan Nolte (team psychologist perhaps?) and that he can shoot his way out of it. I'm anticipating that Salt will play like a big man, and the guards will get better, and that we'll learn from this.
I'm really hoping its final four or bust next season, too. In the meantime I'll mourn a little and move on.
