I love my Hoos, but we have done extremely little to make anyone other than diehard UVA fans feel that we will be sticking around for a lengthy run. We have built a reputation for early exits and you can say what you want about the poor seeding of MSU, the fact is that we had a game to play and couldn't take care of business. We didn't lose by much, but a team worth hyping should take care of those situations.
This year we have lacked the Hooclear Explosion/Cavalanche element, but our offense has been more efficient and exciting. Still though, we let too many teams hang around even if many of our wins, although by a final margin somewhat closer than we would have liked, never seemed to be in doubt. However, come tourney time, those traits will get you killed. We have it in us, but we need to bring it. Tobey is a microcosm of our hoops team; he has it in him, but he often fails to bring it. The entire team needs to bring it each and every night!
We are good, we are very good, but if we want to take that next step, we have to slay some demons, Michigan State may very well be one of them, but there are other challenges before we ever get that far. Let's not forget that the last time we were a #1 seed, we were an upset alert as potentially the first #1 to go down to a #16. Fortunately we avoided Chaminade the Sequel, but those narrow escapes to grossly inferior teams help to create a brand for our team that resonates with your average man on the street ... and the media!
We can turn all these media heads into speakers spouting our greatness, but we have to show them that we are to be feared. That comes from results, and the time to produce them is now!
