UVA survives Bettinger's wildness in the 1st, two home runs given up by Rosenberger, and a blown save by Doyle to pull out the win. Bettinger walked four of the first five batters he faced and gave up a two-run double in the first as the Hokies jumped out to a three run lead. He pitched well in the next five innings and gave up only one more hit and no runs. Virginia scored just two runs in the first seven innings and cut the lead to 3-2. Rosenberger gave up back to back jacks in the top of the 8th to extend the lead to 5-2. The Hoos scored 4 in the bottom of the inning to take a 6-5 lead. Doyle came in to pitch the 9th and gave up the tying run on two hits before the Hoos scored on a walk-off bases loaded walk by Gerstenmaier in the bottom of the 9th. Doyle lost the save but got the win.
Pinero was four for five and scored two runs. Cody was three for four including a big two-run home run in the 8th inning. Clement was two for four with two runs and one RBI. Thaiss extended his hit streak by going two for five with three RBI. This was another gutty win for the team.
