On a night when our three starting guards hit just 2 of 11 attempted shots from beyond the arc, a primary reason for our win was once again defense. UNC has not excelled in ball handling this year, and Virginia made the most of the opportunities afforded by the Tar Heels. Virginia had 6 turnovers, and Carolina scored 2 points on these chances; Virginia forced 11 Carolina turnovers and scored 14 points. While Caffaro and Shedrick were not stat stuffers on offense (they had a combined 8 points and 3 rebounds), they helped limit a gimpy Bacot to 4 points and 3 rebounds, and Shedrick had 5 blocks. Gardner also stepped up a he led the Cavs with 10 rebounds and 17 points, which included 7 of 8 free throws. Lastly, Beekman stood out on both ends of the court; he had 5 assists with 0 turnovers and helped limit Love to just 3 for 15 shooting.
