Was a relief to see Brennan say its NFL or return to Virginia. Transfer could work out or it could be a HUGE mistake. We all really want to see these guys succeed. Olu needs to understand the reality of human behavior, not just the sales pitch of the new coach (we need you). All Coaches want control - its part of their nature and its ego. They get that control by playing people they trust. At Virginia he has built years of trust. Even with a new coach, they will know his reputation. They know his performance. His teammates trust him, he is a leader.
Its easier to see how things might fall apart as a transfer qb. Imagine Brennan were to go to Texas AM - comes in as a starter, has a bad half, the concepts are not the same, even if its the receivers fault. Maybe hurts his ankle. His replacement is a kid that the coach picked out of high school three years ago, Hes been committed to him for that whole length of time. The replacement does well. The coach is far more invested in the kid that he recruited than in Brennan , because he's seeing the future. Now Brennan is sitting the bench and his draft prospects are tanking by the day. Same goes for Olu. maybe has a nagging injury and gets replaced for part of a game, maybe someone rolls up on him and hes out for a game or two. Does he go back in as a starter, or do they keep starting the redshirt junior who has two years and a covid year? The kid that the coaches themselves committed to, committed to the family years before. The kid that in his mind he knew would be special -thats why they recruited him.
There really is no upside for him. Exposure? He's been at Virginia and got as much recognition as any olineman. The downside is huge. The upside? I dont see it. If he were a backup who needed reps, if you are buried on the depth chart, If you were a basketball player going to an offense that fits (shayok). But this makes no sense
