The first 3 innings resembled a fire drill; MSM scored all of their runs , and Virginia scored 12 times in the first and third innings. The unofficial scorekeeper (me) had all of their runs unearned because of 3 errors by the Hoos. Virginia scored 9 runs in the first on just 4 hits and added 3 runs in the 3rd on 2 hits. For the game Virginia was aided by 8 walks, 5 hit batters, 11 hits, and 6 stolen bases. A Gelof 2-run home run was one of the two hits in the 3rd. O'Ferrall was 3 for 5 with 2 RBI; eight others had 1 hit each. The Virginia pitchers were aided by 3 double plays and three outstanding plays in the outfield. Courtney made a diving catch in the 9th and Didawick leaped high for two catches which might have been home runs except for his effort. Mabe made his first appearance of the year on the mound in the 8th and struck out all three batters that he faced.
