We will lose 8 seniors from this year's team - Casey, Cody, Gerstenmaier, Knight, Meyer, Novak, Sousa, and Wilson. The loss of Casey means we will have an opening in our weekend pitching rotation. Cody and Novak will have to be replaced in the outfield and infield, respectively, and Sousa leaves a spot in the bullpen. The first question is what will happen with our 10 juniors - Comer, Eikhoff, Donahue, Harrington, Lynch, McCarthy, Simmons, Sperling, Weber, and Weiler. Based on his production this year, I would think that there is a very good chance that Weber will get an offer from the pros. Much will depend on whether McCarthy and Simmons will get offers since they are coming off injuries. I think that there is a real possibility that Comer, Eikhoff, Harrington, Lynch, and Sperling will return, and all of these could be major contributors next year.
The following freshmen and sophomores played a fair amount this year -- Abbott, Morris, Nicholson, Richardson, Tappen, and Whitten; and Murdock has played well since coming back from his surgery. The second question is the status of our incoming team. Our two highest rated are Vasil and Siani; Vasil, a pitcher, recently sustained an arm injury, and this might affect his appeal to the pros. Siani is a good prospect for the outfield and could fill a real need based on what happens with McCarthy and Simmons.
