Virginia scored 1 run each in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th innings on a Gelof infield out, a Gelof bases loaded walk, and a sacrifice fly by O'Donnell respectively, but the team was down 5-3 going into the 6th inning. Teel led off with a home run. Anderson followed with a double and came home on a Stephan double; Tuft drew a walk, and both scored on a triple by O'Ferrall who scored on O'Donnell's single. The Hoos added another run in the 7th and scored two more in the 8th when O'Farrell led off with a double and came home on a home run by O'Donnell.
Berry started on the mound and pitched well until the 5th inning. After he got the first two batters out, he gave up a single and a walk. He was relieved by Hodorovich, who gave up two walks and a single to the three batters he faced. Hodges came in and gave up a double before getting the final out of the inning. Jaxel pitched the 7th and was relieved by Tonas after he gave up a leadoff home run in the 8th. Tonas retired all 6 batters that he faced on 4 strike outs and 2 routine fly balls to Saucke.
Virginia was led by O'Farrell, who had 2 doubles and a triple, 2 RBI, and 3 runs scored. O'Donnell was 2 for 3 with 4 RBI; Stephan was 2 for 5 with a RBI, and Didawick was 2 for 2 and made a diving catch in left field in the 3rd which held VCU to just 1 run in the inning.
