Saw the offer to the Swedish kid and got me thinking. IIRC, Jack Salt was first foreign born kid CTB signed. He then signed Diakite, Stattman, Badocchi, Caffaro, T Wold, and for next year Taine Murray. Thats 7 foreign players over past 6 years, with offer out on 2022 Swedish kid.
So how has CTB fared with foreign players? first grade is coming into program/ second grade is performance at UVA
Diakite- A/A+, 4 star and came to UVA early. National Champ. Took a RS year and 2 seasons to get acclimated but his last 2 years were stellar
Salt - D/B+, unknown HS. National Champ. Physical presence and just all around tough guy, limited offense but those screens! His D was exceptional.
Stattman- C/D been hurt, should have RS, jury out but looks like he will not be a factor this year and next year is it for him
Caffaro- B/B? 4star. Jury still out, but next season will be crucial. If Caffaro puts it together he will be a better Jack Salt. With Shedrick only other Big, need Papi to produce
Badocchi- C/F Was non factor and no longer playing
T Wold- B / B or B+ JC player was highly ranked IIRC in JC. Took some time to adjust to ACC but by timeseason called last year T Wold was solid contributor. Less so this season, but still has March to up game
T Murray- B+ 4 star
Conclusion, Badocchi only big miss, and Stattman unlikely to be contributor, but rest of kids have made real contributions. WE don't win NCAA without Salt/ Diakite. Seems CTB is building a solid foreign pipeline, and that his efforts bear fruit.
