The last 2 seasons proves how important guard play is in college basketball, particularly on offense. While D Hunter was our most talented player last year, especially on defense, Jerome and Guy were the two most essential players on offense in almost all of our games. Jerome was actually the single most important player, as the ball was in his hands for considerably more time than any two of our other players combined. Given his height, his knowledge of the game, his alpha-dog attitude, he carried our team offensively, not just by being able to get key baskets but also by beautiful passes setting up others. He was perhaps the most valuable player for UVa in my life, given that we won the National Championship with him at point guard.

This year we just do not have that and will struggle offensively throughout the season. K Clark is fearless, but does not have the height, skill, or basketball savvy as Jerome. This is not meant as a knock on Clark, as there is no faulting his effort.

That said, I can hardly wait for Beekman to arrive.
