When I was growing up in 70s-90s there was routine generational changing of the guard as to who was the face of/best player in the sport. With the exception of football where Pat Mahomes has finally dethroned Tom Brady as the face of the NFL, no other major sport has established a face of the new generation.

LeBron is still far and away the most notable NBA player with 30 something Seth Curry a distant second. The general public has most likely never even heard of Jovic or Embid or Tatum.

Tiger and Phil are still far better known than any younger golfers.

Rafa and Novick still dominate men's tennis and Serena is far and away the best known women's tennis player.

In baseball, there is not a single player who is well known to the American public like Jackson or McGuire or Jeter was.

Any thought on why this is. Just seems like a weird coincidence and very surprising.
