Brad and I just left Scott Stadium where we got to watch a bit of the first scrimmage of fall camp.

-There were some former UVa players and family members there today. I spotted Aaron Brooks, Shawn Moore and Frank Quayle among the group. Before kickoff, Tony Elliott addressed the crowd saying they were welcome to watch from anywhere they’d like, and saying “this is your program,” and so on.

-Health wise the offensive line was a bit light. Logan Taylor, McKale Boley, Hugh Laughlin and Noah Josey were in yellow, and we didn’t see them in the scrimmage. William Simpkins was in green again, and Jaylon Baker was in yellow, didn’t seem to be able to go.

-After stretching, the scrimmage began with kickoffs (both Bettridge and Farrell kicked off, with the second being the live play). Devin Chandler and Ethan Davies returners.

-The starting offense scored on the starting defense on the first drive. There was some rotation, but here’s the personnel we saw out there to start the practice:

QB: Armstrong
RB: Hollins
WRs: Kemp, Davis, Wicks
TE: Misch/Wood (sometimes both or one of the two)
OL: Patterson, Flores, Furnish, Johnson, Leech

DL: Butler, Faumui, Carter, Bennett
LB: Jackson, Ahern

-Secondary (rotation): Johnson, Cyrpress at CB, Aidan Ryan at safety

On the first TD drive:
-Short pass to Kemp for 10-15 yards
-Hollins 30-ish yard run
-Saw some under center stuff, and up-tempo the whole way, and some bunch sets from the WR.
-Perris Jones had a catch out of the backfield for a few yards
-Cypress had solid coverage on a deep ball to Wicks that was incomplete
-Armstrong keeper on read option on 4th and 1 for a touchdown off tackle left. Good fake of Ahern on the edge
-Brennan keeper for 6 on 4th and 1

-The backups came in for the second drive. Woolfolk had a blue on, meaning he could be hit.

-Second Defense: Akere, Davis, Diatta, Green, J. Jackson, Stewart, D. Johnson, Herard, Gaines, Chalmers

-Nice out throw to Sean Moore to start the second drive.

-Cody Brown had a pair of nice runs, including the touchdown from a few yards out.

-Jay Woolfolk also had a long run into the red zone where he cut back across the field. He has a few nice passes and a couple that missed the mark.

-Coen King had a big hit on Xavier Brown after a nice gain from the freshman

-WR Sean Moore saw time on both the first and second team offense

-As the third drive started, Elliott wasn’t happy with the defense getting out on the field quickly

-The blocking looked good on both drives, from what we saw. Lots of fast developing plays too.

-Right was we had to go, the starting offense came back out with a two tight end set (Wood and Misch)
