The Virginia coaches thought the game was over on the mercy rule when they led 11 - 1 after 6 and 1/2 innings, but the Towson staff wanted to play on. Apparently the Towson pitchers were not consulted.
Virginia scored 6 more runs on just 1 hit in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Towson staff hit 4 straight Hoos. Virginia added 2 more runs in the 8th to reach the final score.
Virginia had 16 different players come to the plate and used 5 pitchers. Godbout led the offense with 2 home runs and 1 double good for 4 RBI in 3 turns at bat. Ference had 2 home runs for 3 RBI in 3 at bats.
The Virginia pitchers allowed 7 hits and no earned runs. Blanco got the win by allowing just 1 single in three innings on the mound.
