Four home runs by Virginia helped the Hoos overcome a grand slam by VCU. Virginia got started in the 1st inning when Saucke doubled, and Ford reached on an error, Ference hit a homer over the left field fence for a 3-0 lead. The Hoos added another run in the 3rd when Ford doubled and came home on a single by Anderson. The lead went to 6-0 in the 6th. Hanson led off with a home run; O'Ferrall followed with a single and scored on a double by Saucke. VCU had 1 hit in each of the first five innings but could not score. Woodfolk came in to pitch in the 6th and got all three batters out. Virginia added another run in the 7th on Godbout's solo home run. Woodfolk loaded the bases on a single and two walks before he gave up a grand slam home run. Virginia scored the final run in the top of the 9th on a home run by Didawick. Teel pitched the final 2.1 innings and allowed i hit and 0 runs
