To be the Champion

You have to beat the Champion. Unfortunately yesterday went the way all too many games go against Puke. They are champions for a reason- they believe it, they play like it, and they make the winning plays. No more "moral victories" No more blaming refs and crying about 8 v 5. To be the champions we must beat Puke Its that simple.

WE played outstanding D in very tough circumstances against out standing players in Allen and Ingram. But we did not make the shots that were available throughout the game in order to win. One stat tells it all 2-11.

Can't beat Puke at Cameron unless you make some 3s. Love how CTB has refocused the team and how Brogdon and Gill are playing.

We will meet Puke again this season. If we are to be champions, the road starts with beating Puke.

horrible 2nd half

Yes, Allen walked on final play but....... we did not rebound in 2nd half, 2 for 11 from three, too much one on one no offensive flow. our role players just watched Brogdon. Thompson played 22 minutes and gave us almost nothing. Also way too many phantom fouls causing Wilkens to have very limited playing time although he still led us in rebounding and hustling. When game is close no one other than Malcolm or London looks too score and our offense stalls out. No UVA player had a good game just OK games although Tobey looked good for a while but didn't rebound and his slow feet were definitely detrimental. Hall was also off, Shayok needs more time. Nolte hit a nice 3 but missed a big one, also was too slow for his usually good D. The leading 3 pt ACC shooter, London never attemped one, I would of thought a play or screen might have been run for him, maybe he just wasn't looking for his shot?
All in all, I'd rather lose a close one now than later even though I really hate Duke. We will still be a low seed and hopefully have a good showing in ACCt

Worse than I thought

Grayson Allen on the last shot had come down on his foot and was falling away. It wasn't even a bang bang foot, release....it was come down, start to double and fall away and then tossed it up. His foot was flat on the floor when he released the ball. WOW! The refs flat sucked on this obvious no call!

Next game!

Hope UVA comes with current level of intensity, but preparing for tons of BS flop foul calls

I am predicting that Grayson Allen will be getting away with tons of foot dragging pivots, NBA extra step layups, with the head snap flop style fake foul for and ones all day. Watched him the last two wins and it was ridiculous the number of stop, pivot, dragging of pivot foot along with extra steps and one with the nice acting touch of snapping the head dramatics.

The ferret will be working the refs on the freedom of movement call you can bank on it! This is the game Tobey has to show up and also stop trying to shooting those top of the key bricks if they are not falling. Let the high percent shooters shoot and every basket counts when you are playing in Cameron! Got to hit the shots at Free Throw line to seal it. Duke will attack it if we start missing them and it's close. Remember Duke has a history of stopping the clock 8 or 10 times in 50 seconds if they are behind and you are missing one and ones.

UVA 69
Duke 58

The main thing is that we are improving

The second main thing is to avoid the injuries that doomed our last two trips to the NCAAt. From where we were at the start of the ACC, can't really complain much. Our last three road games have been pretty damn good performances. Duke definitely got the officiating benefit today. We still could have done things to leave no question at the end. We can still win this thing but if not we just need to make sure we get a top 4 seed for the ACC.

BTW, is Euro move code for travel?

Duke Game Finally Here

I circled this game on the calendar when the schedule came out. I have a longstanding dislike for the Dukies in general including most of the graduates I have met from there. This is the best chance we have had in decades to beat them at Cameron and we owe them some payback for last year. I will be in the stands to cheer them on. I'll admit that I lost some confidence with the three early road losses, but the ship has been righted. A win would go a long way to an ACC title. Come on WAHOOS!!!! Let's crush them!!!!
