Transfer Commitment #5! UVa lands North Texas QB Chandler Morris

Per a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel, UVa has landed their guy at QB. Morris visited last week and chose the Hoos over Oklahoma State, Memphis, UCF and others. Morris, the son of former SMU/Arkansas head coach Chad Morris, was 4th nationally in TD passes this year, and 5th in passing yards. This is his fourth school, starting at Oklahoma, then going to TCU before his 2024 run with the Mean Green. One year of eligibility left.

Transfer Commitment #9! UVa lands Eastern Kentucky LB Maddox Marcellus

UVa has landed another playmaker on defense, with Eastern Kentucky LB Maddox Marcellus picking the Hoos. The South Florida native picked UVa over Houston and K-State, Indiana, Iowa State, Cal among others. Marcellus is a very productive linebacker with two years of eligibility remaining. At EKU this year, Marcellus had 97 tackles and 7 TFLs, 2 interceptions and a forced fumble. He was an all-conference performer this year. Good size and speed at 6-foot-3, 225 pounds as well.

Transfer Commitment #7! UVa adds Elon Edge rusher Cazeem Moore

UVa got another commitment this morning, when Elon defensive end Cazeem Moore made the call for the Hoos. A top 250 player in the Rivals Portal rankings, Moore was one of the best edge rushers at the FCS level, and chose Virginia over offers from USC, Colorado, Pitt, Texas Tech, Cincinnati and many more. He's the 7th addition to the roster via the portal, second defensive lineman, and first edge rusher.

Another financial boost for UVa football on the way

Anonymous Donor Pledges $3 Million Matching Gift for Football

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. — Virginia Athletics and the Virginia Athletics Foundation (VAF) announced today (Dec. 19) an exciting opportunity to amplify support for its football program. A generous anonymous donor has pledged to match every dollar contributed to the Football Enhancement Fund, up to $3 million.

From December 19, 2024, through August 30, 2025, every donation made to the Football Enhancement Fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the anonymous donor, doubling its impact. The matching funds will enhance the overall student-athlete experience by prioritizing nutrition, while also enhancing travel and recruiting.

The donor highly values expanding nutritional resources for the football program housed in the Molly and Robert Hardie Football Operations Center that opened earlier in the year.

“I am extremely grateful for this level of commitment from our donors and their investment in the well-being of our scholar-athletes,” Fralin Family Head Football Coach Tony Elliott said. “I am thrilled for Virginia football to benefit from enhanced nutritional resources that fuel performance and recovery as we build the model program for long-term success on and off the field.”

Virginia supporters are encouraged to join this effort to maximize the impact of their gift and help ensure UVA is at the forefront of the evolving college football landscape.

“We are incredibly thankful for this amazing commitment that continues the momentum of philanthropic support for Virginia Athletics”, said Kevin Miller, Executive Director of the Virginia Athletics Foundation. “We hope this inspires others to continue giving.”

This is the second multi-million-dollar commitment to Virginia Football in the last two weeks. To make a difference and support the Virginia football program, click on the link here.

If you are interested in giving $25,000 or more (payable over five years) to the matching challenge and joining the Sabre Society, click here to fill out the Letter of Commitment form and email it to Senior Director of Development, Major Gifts and Campaign Strategy, Ryan Schulman, atrschulman@virginia.edu.

Refs stunk

From where I sat near the floor on the Home end, these were the worst refs ever! @42 bullied, pushed off, elbowed us the whole first half aon O with the only foul on him being a picky tac one near mid court! Ames was fouled 20-3 times before the sticky tac foul on S Saunders and the technical - ballgame. Why and how can we get ACC refs at home that are so one sided?

Transfer Commitment #6! UVa lands NC Central RB J'Mari Taylor

UVa landed North Carolina Central running back J'Mari Taylor today, and his paperwork is in. Taylor visited earlier this week, and chose UVa over other P4 interest, including Virginia Tech (visited) and Michigan State. Taylor was one of the best playmakers at the FCS level this year, rushing for 1,146 yards and 15 touchdowns, averaging 5.8 yards per carry. Taylor also had 29 receptions for 257 yards and a pair of touchdowns. The Charlotte native has one year of eligibility remaining.

Dave Clawson resigns at Wake

Just heard on ACCN that he’s resigning. Sounds like he’s done with this world of NIL and transferring. He tried to run a developmental program that played a bunch of 4th and 5th years. That kept his teams competitive. Now big programs just pick off his best players. His program’s decline matched the rise of NIL and transfers.

I’d take him here, maybe a slight step up in NIL but not by much though.

Final - Walsh breaks 11 World Records (2 relays); Douglass breaks 4 incl relays - Short Course World Champs

In the football and hoops gloom, shining a little more light on more amazing achievements by UVA athletes might help.

Gretchen Walsh broke the 50-meter Butterfly World Record not once, but twice in prelims and semifinal swims.
That's right, she still has finals left to do it again.

Kate Douglass broke a 10-year-old 200-meter IM World Record for Gold - she now holds WR in the 200 IM and 200 Breast.
Alex Walsh returned in her first meet after knee surgery for a rousing Silver, a great comeback after her disappointing DQ at the Olympics.
