OMFG, I'm the worst hardcore fan ever...

I'm too emotionally invested in this program.

1987, I stomp out of Scott Stadium PO'd that we just "lost" to UNC with a few minutes left. I find out in the freaking Hardees parking lot FROM A UNC FAN, that Scott Secules turned into Joe Montana, and we won the game.

2007, I'm living in S.C. and make the trip to Littlejohn to see SS & JR play Clemson. I stomp out early and am halfway back to Charleston before I get up the courage to turn on the radio, and find out THIRTY MINUTES AFTER IT'S OVER, that we won the game.

Tonight, I'm on a business trip in another state. I stomp out of the hotel to go to dinner with about 3 minutes left in the game, and a guy in the restaurant notices my UVa t-shirt. He says "Helluva comeback!!". Not until then did I realize, we won the game

Can someone kindly summarize the last 2-3 minutes of the game???

The question officially flips ...

Instead of asking "how we can be so bad on the road when we are so good at home," the question now needs to be become "how can we be so good at home when we are SOOO bad on the road?"

The really interesting part happens this weekend when we play our first good road opponent (UL). Do we get blown out, or just play to the level of competition?

BTW, those talking bubble haven't looked around the NCAA, but I do think this team will be a 6-10 seed when all is said and done (assuming they keep winning all of the home games, except maybe UNC ... UL is atrocious on the road too). Looking at a 6-10 place finish in the ACC as well.

Remainder of the ACC Schedule

The game at Wake is our last "easy" road game if there is such a thing. We have a couple of very winnable home games in BC and VPI with NC State seeming pretty weak this year. That leaves the upcoming road games at Louisville, Pitt, Duke, and Miami. Its going to be hard to take control of the ACC without winning 3 of the next 5 road games, including Wake. Have to win 1 of the UNC and Louisville games at home. What's everyone's revised prediction of the remainder of the season?

Baseball projections

Baseball America picks UVA as #4. Their projected lineup was interesting. They projected Coman at C, Thaiss at 1B, Clement at 2B, Pinero at SS, with Smith, Haseley, and Doherty in the outfield from left to right. Karstetter was their only first year starter at 3B. D1 Baseball named Jones as first team preseason AA, and Thaiss as second team AA at DH.

Minutes talk

Some guys have brought up great points about MB and LP playing a lot of minutes and that has hurt us in the past late in the season, but the question is now if you're going to cut their minutes down some, do you risk losing a game or two that will save us in March? Or if you're cutting their minutes down who are you giving their minutes to and who is not playing at all?

Need to play more:

DH
IW
MT
JR
JS

Need to play less

MS
DT
EN

If you're going by the list I posted above your depth chart right now looks like this

LP
DH
MB
AG
JS

MT 6th
IW 7th
JR 8th

DT 9th
MS10th
EN 11h

Those last three can just find minutes when needed, but like NJHoo said now I see his point 100%, that fourth guard needs to emerge because by looking at the list that I posted above you don't have any minutes for an extra guard. We are pretty safe on the block but a fourth guard does need to present capable minutes.

Cuse Game Thoughts

I will break this up first half, second half and end of game because sometimes as soon as I'm typing something while watching the game the reverse happens haha.

1st half-

Salt played hard early banging.

Like how we looked for the early 3 ball when open.

Never throw to Salt on the run. Not his game.

But, when Salt is on the block he is showing his toughness.

I like the starting lineup minus starting Tobey over Salt, but this is why I am a HS coach and TB is TB

Still giving up the middle drive too much. Gill has to be better at recognition.

This is a good matchup for Tobey if he can stay out of foul trouble, but the penetration early helped.

Our high low is hard to stop if we have the right guys in the game.

DT's game is the drive, but he needs to look for the three point shot as season goes along.

Tobey gave good minutes early, makes sense to start Salt if it keeps him out of early foul trouble.

We aren't quick at the rim like years past. Is what it is this year which is why we need to score 70-75 at tourney time.

Cuse is living and dying by the 3 ball. That should dry up later in the game.

Love IW from 12-15. If he could only back that up to 20 feet.

Gill has to stop being so flashy under the basket and just go up strong. I think he misses by getting too cute.

We may need to extend on the perimeter because all they are shooting is the three point shot.

Like TB giving LP dap after tying up a possession.

Nolte gave good minutes on defense as usual. That is why our plus/minus is up when he is in, but he has to score late in the year.

MS sighting

LP needs to take 12-15 shots a game. He is our best outside shooter.

Our last 2 minutes of the half was what we needed to finish half.

Didn't like Nolte and MS on the floor at the end of half. Two guys who will play D, but they need to find offense.

Halftime Thoughts-

Should have had a bigger lead, but the energy was very good. Cuse I hope can't keep up hitting 3's.

Still getting beat on the middle drive way more than I am sure TB wants. MD and AN will help that next season

Second Half-

Like starting Tobey in the 2nd half. He helps us vs. Cuse if he stays out of foul trouble because of the high-low action.

Sloppy few possessions to start the 2nd half.

Gill running the floor is an extra for us. Cory made a great point that he looks even more athletic than when he first got here.

Rebounding because of boxing out has given us the edge when they miss shots.

DH, MB, LP, IW, MT is a solid lineup imo.

DT running PG some. Rather see DH, but you have to find minutes for people somehow.

DT has to find a jumper.

Cuse has the green light from 3. I wish we would shoot a little more when open, but do it inside out which they can't.

We got sloppy over passing vs. their zone.

Why is Nolte on the floor? If he can't shoot over the zone, why is he in? Ugh.

TB got too cute with lineups and Cuse made a run.

IW really is deserving of his minutes.

Nice early shot clock 3 by MB. I thought too many times tonight we were too calm which let Cuse set their defense.

That hustle play by Cuse that cut the lead to three is what college basketball is about. Great play by them which would have pushed our lead to eight.

Great ball movement the last 5 minutes by us vs zone. Attacked the middle of the zone and found shooters when open.

Cuse just wouldn't go away.

MB from Cuse is very hard to guard. Kid is a very good player. Did we ever have a chance of getting him?

TB got too cute with lineups

Our best lineup was:

MB
LP
IW
DH
MT

IW and DH are earning minutes more and more.

EN, DT, MD need to play less for opposite reasons. EN can't score, DT can't guard, MS is on a milk carton.

Defense just isn't where it has been last two years, but we are still solid and played hard.

MB and TR are two kids from Cuse I would love having on this team.

Need to do a better job contesting the three point shot.

Trap game coming on Tuesday, but I think TB is finding his guys and we should see the rotation tighten up more and more.

Good win as long as we don't have a set back Tuesday.

And LP should never see the bench unless hurt or fouling out :)
