Who will he be compared to or remind people of?

My thoughts ... he's not going to be a first offensive/backcourt option, nor will he be an all-NBA defensive team sort of lockdown defender. He's going to make some team though, and become a regular rotation guy at the 1-3 spots (either as a starter or prominent backup). He's not fantastic at any one skill, but he's a 7 or an 8 at most skills. Not super athletic, but he is not unathletic either. Most importantly, he's a "glue" guy that is MUCH more skilled than a typical glue guy, in that he is not limited to just diving for loose balls and picking up junk baskets and getting in some opponents head defensively. In other words, I don't see him being a superstar, but I see him being a good, important piece to a good-to-great team (or teams).

So who does that compare to historically or for comparison's sake? I've been racking my brain try to think of a analogue ... am I crazy to think Harper from those great Bulls teams? Or maybe a more backcourt oriented version of a Shawn Marion (i.e., a great third or fourth option player that does a little bit of everything)?

Have at it to tell me who I'm forgetting from the annals of NBA history ...

Word I hear was that TB saw the kid three times yesterday and obviously liked what he saw.

Good stuff on the wire this morning on three-star guard Andrew Jones, who UVa has now offered. But the Cavaliers aren't the only team coming after the Texas native. Needless to say, his recruitment has changed a lot this month.

I am not saying he's a wide receiver per se, but if we're looking for a downhill running game we have other options that fit that mold a little bit and placing Smoke in more space is what a lot of us have been wanting for years because that seems to be where he can make the most damage yet the staff still want some running between the tackles. I mean Jet sweeps would be effective if we didn't run the same play 20 times. I just feel instead of having him in the backfield all the time running between the tackles we need to be more creative with his talent.

How many wins would it take to save London's job? Realistically I think we can start 2-2. Losses to ND and UCLA, wins vs. W&M and BS. If we can get the Pitt game and Cuse that would put us at 4-2. After that I think we need two more as well as beating VT. That will give us seven, a bowl game, and enough for me to at least extend him for two more seasons to get him off of the hot seat for his next few recruiting classes. But, I just can't see 6 or 7 and that's not being a London hater.

Kudos to Brad for comparing Guy to a smaller Bob Sura. Watching the highlight tape posted in another thread, I think he hit the nail on the head. Smooth, athletic, versatile. I believe that anyone who thought he might be too small for ACC play is going to be pleasantly surprised.

He's a bit smaller, so without an additional growth spurt he won't be quite the all around wing that Sura was. HOWEVER, he already has a much better stroke that BS did. I'll take that tradeoff for a great 2 guard in our lineup any day of the week.

I know the class ranking won't stay at 24 and we will likely finish somewhere between No. 35 and 50, but I can't help but be impressed by the job this staff has done given the questions around our program and their job security. Aside from the DL, they've filled all our needs (4 OL is pretty good at this point) and I think it was very smart of them to take kids early before the season gets started. They're managing the risk in case of another underwhelming season. Sure, kids can decommit, but they're less likely to decommit than to just stop considering UVA as uncommitted prospects.

I welcome alternative opinions, but my stance is the staff has done one of their best jobs recruiting of the London era this year. It's a pity we can't see what this new iteration of the staff could do after a couple winning seasons.

I'm not nearly so rosy when it comes to the staff's performance in other areas. But I'm choosing to focus just on recruiting at the moment, and the staff deserves credit in that area.

Not very exciting news, but UVA plays Bradley first. Assuming we win, we will play the winner of Seton Hall and Long Beach State. The matchups on the other side are Ole Miss vs. George Mason and Oklahoma State vs. Towson.

I am sorry if this has been previously posted, but I just saw the information on the Rivals' site. He arrived late at his PSA Cardinals game from another tournament. His team was down 21 with 13 minutes to play. Jerome scored 20 points in the next 12 minutes and brought his team back only to lose in the last minute.

Just saw that Coach Bennett has been tipped off to watch this kid and I just saw his mix highlights and this is Spud Webb, Muggsy Bogues with better touch, especially on long range.

He was blocking shots like a shorter Simba, putting moves on bigger guards TRYING to guard him and bombing threes on them to boot! Heck of a passer and dribbler and uses his body well on layups to make sure the shot goes in and draws the foul! I like this kid and the only draw I think keeping big name teams from him is because he is 5'6"!

The freshmen "Athletes" have been slotted: Juan Thornhill at safety, Chris Sharp at running back, Myles Robinson at cornerback, Tanner Cowley at tight end. A few guys not listed: J.J. Jackson, Michael Biesmier and Caanan Brown.

JUSTIN ANDERSON, Dallas

The Mavericks have had an eventful offseason and are reeling after center DeAndre Jordan reneged on a commitment to join them in free agency and ultimately decided to stay with the Clippers.

They got some good news this week with the performance of Anderson, the burly swingman from Virginia that they picked 21st overall on draft night.

Anderson averaged 17.5 points in six games and impressed Mavs coaches with his commitment on defense and his willingness to accept coaching. As the week went on, Anderson found more space to work with than he had in college, and he attacked the rim aggressively.

"It's completely different basketball than I'm used to in college," Anderson said. "Once I started to realize that in college it's a lot slower, a lot more packed in the paint, (the NBA), you can get to the rim at ease and there's a lot of space."

Jerome is #34, Guy is #39, and Huff is #61. Diakite is #19. I can remember when a commitment to UVA usually resulted in a drop in the ratings. Recent success seems to have turned this around.
