Virginia wins nail biter 8-7 to sweep Georgia Tech

Virginia took the lead in the 1st inning on O'Ferrall's single and Gelof's home run. The lead went to 3-0 when Stephan doubles, went to 3rd on Godbout's sacrifice, and scored on a ground out by Tuft. Tech scored twice in the bottom of the second and added 2 runs in the 4th and 1 run in the 5th to take a 5 -3 lead. Virginia took a 6-5 lead in the 6th on Godbout's RB single and a 2 RBI single by Tuft. Tech scored again in the bottom of the 6th to knot the score at 6. Gelof hit his second home run of the day in the 7th to give the Cavs a 7-6 lead. O'Ferrall had a RBI single in the 8th to give Virginia a 8-6 lead.
O'Connor pitched well in relief (I expect that he got the win.) Woolfolk came in to pitch in the 9th; after striking out the first batter, he gave up 3 consecutive singles to cut the lead to 8-7 and then issued a walk to load the bases with one out. Two consecutive strike outs by Woolfolk brought the game to a happy end for the all the Hoos in Hooland.
Offensively Virginia was led by O'Ferrall, who was 3 for 5 with 1 RBI, O'Donnell, who was 2 for 5, Gelof, whose 2 home runs produced 3 runs, and Tuft, who was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI. Virginia had 13 hits and left 8 runners, and Tech had 17 hits but left 11 on base.

ACC Baseball Tournament

Am I correct that UVA will get a first round bye since it appears they can do no worse than finish 4th in the ACC? If they lose today and Miami wins, UVA should get the tie breaker since they swept Miami earlier this year. Wake Forest and Clemson are locks for 2 of the 4 spots. Miami and Duke are battling for the final spot. Not knowing the official rules for the seeding, my staements are conjecture, but I think accurate.

Virginia comes from behind twice to take 10-6 win over Georgia Tech

Early started on the mound and gave up 5 runs on 9 hits, including 1 double and 3 HRs in the 5 innings that he pitched. He gave up 3 runs in the 1st inning. Virginia tied the score in the top of the 2nd on Stephan's 2 RBI single and a RBI fielders choice by Godbout. Tech scored 1 run in the 2nd to take the lead 4-3 and added another run in the 5th to extend their lead to 5-3. Virginia scored once in he 6th to cut the lead to 5-4 before taking the lead for good in the 7th inning on Gelof's RBI single and Teel's 2-run home run. The Jackets scored 1 run in the bottom of the inning to cut Virginia's lead to 7-6. In the 9th inning Teel singled ahead of walks by Anderson and Saucke to load the bases. Baker hit a pinch hit single to score 2 runs, and Godbout's double brought in the final run of the game.
Tonas pitched a 0 hit 6th inning to get the win. Berry and Woofolk pitched the final 2 innings with Berry yielding Tech's final run in the 7th inning.
Teel was 4 for 5 with 1 home run and 2 RBI. Stephan added 2 hits in 3 at bats and also had 2 RBI. Anderson and Saucke were both 1 for 3; Anderson scored 3 runs and Saucke scored twice.
This would have been an easy game for Virginia to lose and the team had to come back against Tech's two best relief pitchers. A win and sweep tomorrow will be very important for a lot or reasons including my blood pressure.
I failed to mention that O'Donnell made a leaping catch at the fence for the 1st out in the 9th and then Saucke made a diving catch for the second out.

Virginia wins first game against Georgia Tech 12-5

Virginia jumped out in the 1st inning on a 3-run home run by Teel and scored 3 more in the 3rd on a bases loaded double by Saucke. GT score 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd to cut the lead to 6-3. O'Donnell's 2-run home run in the 4th gave the Cavs a 8-3 lead. In the 6th the lead was extended to 10-3 on a bases loaded walk to Gelof and a RBI fielders choice by Teel. Tech scored twice in the 8th , but Virginia got 2 more runs in the 9th thanks to 2 errors by the Tech shortstop.
Parker pitched well for 5 innings except for the 3rd inning. Blanco pitched shut out ball in the 6th and 7th innings. O'Connor gave up 2 runs in the 8th and was relieved by Jaxel, who got the last 4 outs . The offense was led by O'Donnell who was 3 for 4 with a home run and double and 2 RBI. Saucke was 3 for 5 with 3 RBi, and O'Ferrall was 2 for 5. Teel had just one hit but had 4 RBI. The Cavs scored 7 of the 12 runs with 2 outs. The potent Georgia Tech offense was held to 7 hits including 2 doubles.
