Despited short time on Grounds, Colandrea shows flashes

Sure, he’s only been on Grounds since January but first-year QB Anthony Colandrea showed some real flashes in UVa’s Spring Game, @justin ferber writes. “AC10” looks right at home.

Virginia and post season baseball

For several weeks I have been concerned about what I thought that I was seeing. In the midst of an impressive win streak, I believed I saw two very possible problem areas - pitching and hitting. We have a deep staff of very good pitchers but no one that I considered to be overpowering. As we have gotten into the conference portion of the schedule, the earned run averages for some have risen dramatically.
On the other hand, we have a stable of very good to excellent hitters, but I had one area of concern. With the exception of Gelof, they were primarily line drive hitter. They were very productive hitting pitches in the top half of the strike zone. Pitches at or below the knees have resulted in strike outs or routine ground balls. I had hope that my eyes were deceiving me, but the games in the Pitt series convinced me that good pitchers who could consistently throw strikes would make a Virginia more problematic.

The 3-2-1: Breaking down what we learned from the Spring Game

The 3-2-1: The Wahoos put a cap on spring with a solid showing on Saturday and @justin ferber takes a look back at the Spring Game and what it tells us about where UVa’s work is taking the program.

Home win streak ends with a 7-5 loss to Pitt

Pitt scored 7 runs on 14 hits, and Virginia scored 5 runs on 16 hits. In spite of outhitting Pitt, Virginia left 14 runners on base and had only 1 hit in 10 times with runners in scoring position. Virginia also hit into 3 double plays. Every starter for Virginia had at least 1 hit, and O'Ferrall and Saucke each had 3. Gelof, Teel, and Anderson had 2 hits with a home run for both Gelof and Teel. Gelof added 3 RBi to his NCAA leading total. Eddington started on the mound and took the loss.

Virginia lands transfer forward Jordan Minor (Full story added)

Coveted transfer target Jordan Minor starts his official visit to UVa later today. @HoustonWilson caught up with him to preview what will be be an important trip for the former Merrimack forward.

Thread from Last Night

Hi guys-happy Friday.

We deleted the Kyle Getter thread from last night as it got personal in there. Just stay away from the personal attacks against each other and bad language please. We haven’t had many such issues lately, so let’s keep this one an outlier.

I also want to address the reason the thread went sideways in the first place. There are going to be times when word trickles out about something, but a source that gives it to us makes it clear it’s not something they want out there, at least not at that time. We’re always going to respect that relationship and trust over being first. If someone else got the green light to post the story elsewhere from their source, good on them. That’s the business we’re in. And we’ll alway share what we can with the group here. You’ll also notice that people will jump the gun in an attempt to be first, or they’ll just rip information from another source without crediting them. We don’t want to do that.

Rule of thumb: if you ask us about a rumor and we haven’t heard anything like it, we’ll tell you. If we are silent, we either can’t say anything about it, or we don’t have enough info to say anything definitive.

Thanks for listening to my rant! If anyone has any questions, feel free to message us directly.

2024 UVa target Zahir Rainer announcing his choice on Thursday

UVa legacy Zahir Rainer will announce his school of choice on Thursday at 5pm. His seven finalists are UVa, Duke, Minnesota, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Wake and Stanford. Rainer is fresh off a visit to Chapel Hill, and recently visited Minnesota as well. He seems to be quite high on the Gophers, so don't be shocked if it goes that direction, though UNC can't really be counted out with VA prospects of late.

I don't expect UVa to be the choice. The Hoos got into the recruitment and got Rainer (and his dad, Wali) to Grounds a few times, but if it's UVa, it'll come as a surprise.
