What would mean more to HOO fans

I want to know HOO fans what would more to you a 3rd ACC title, or the prized Final Four, or Go.

The physical size is there. The experience also, what would keep us from that? Lastly, do most of you see next years class as one of best all time? Historically (on paper, as time will tell?), or not so much? Guy will be a stud shooter, unlike most we have ever seen, Jerome (jury is out, speed?), other two athletic as they come, and Nichols (is he real deal?), if so, its a given we will be super for years to come. What's your take? Stargar

After the GT game and walking along back to my brother's vehicle I saw the skelton with the sign and

thought of a Tee shirt I was thinking of getting made for football season.

"I am a BIG UVA FOOTBALL FAN and have the stomach Alcer to prove it!"

Well, that was two years ago, and doesn't even bother me now when this staff has one of those ALMOST moments. I am used to them not being able to get it together or know when to step on the gas. This is like watching a pick up game with this staff and I go into the event/stadium or when I watch it at home with ZERO expectations anymore until this staff is replaced!

My box score observations

Two areas stood out to me.

One was the area of assist to turnovers and I am wondering if we are witnessing a changing of the guard along with a changing of strategy here. We have heard how the goal is to get London to score more. Thompson and Hall each had 4 assists to go with 0 turnovers. London had 1 and 1. I did not watch the game but it seems as if London is playing off ball and that Thompson and Hall are manning the point. That would make Brogdon a 3 which is probably his natural position. Ironic thing is, Hall and Thompson still significantly outscored Perrantes, 12 and 13 respectively to 6. I am wondering what this shift in philosophy might mean for the team over the long haul.

Second area, the production of Reuter and Salt. It was against weak and undersized competition but rarely do you see substitutes come in and give you 8 points and 6 boards in 10 minutes (Reuter) and 5 points 3 boards in 8 minutes (Salt). We aren't talking rotational players, here. We are talking end of the bench 10th and 11th man. It is one thing for a Junior Burrough, Chris Williams, or Travis Watson to come in and give that type or production in their very first game, quite another for a non rotational player to do so.

Morgan St Game Thoughts

We missed a lot of chippies early, but I can attribute that to first game jitters.

Really impressed with DT. He just brings an element to this team that against better competition is going to make us hard to stop.

MB's shot still looks flat. He has to improve that later in the year or teams are just going to take away our post and leave him open until he proves himself.

Tobey played exactly how he should have against a weaker opponent in the second half. Still bothers the hell out of me that he makes the grade-school mistake and brings the ball down instead of putting it back up or just dunking it, but I will take his second-half any day of the week.

We need to push in transition even more with our defense and with a few more easy baskets a game this is a final four team without question.

How good is our 2-3 zone offense? Even against better teams that Hi-Low action is very hard to stop.

Devon Hall is finally getting a chance to play meaningful minutes and I actually think over time he will be the guy who gives us three point shots in games to put it away. His shot tonight looked a lot more consistent than some of the other guys on the team and he's a true spark off the bench.

Obviously some things to work on, but our inside out game, pushing it more in transition and the fact our three point shot will fall a lot better most games with our defense still being top-notch is going to make this a season I think we won't forget.

JR is going to be an all ACC player by his senior year. He may not have 6'11" height, but he'll end up being Hansborough with better offensive skill by the time he leaves.

Morgan State/UVa game thread...

Greetings from Charlottesville, where No. 6 UVa is set to host Morgan State in about two hours. Take this for what it's worth but on the game notes handed out by UVa's SID and the PA "practice" of the starting lineup, sophomore guard Darius Thompson was announced as the fifth starter for the Cavaliers along with London Perrantes, Malcolm Brogdon, Anthony Gill, and Mike Tobey.

I'll check back in shortly with notes once the kids take the floor.

As always, have at it folks...

  • Poll
If you could only pick one "single factor" from this list...

Most important factor to the turnaround?

  • Malcolm comes back from the foot injury without complications

    Votes: 31 55.4%
  • Anthony Gill transfers from South Carolina

    Votes: 4 7.1%
  • London Perrantes commits to UVa

    Votes: 21 37.5%

that contributed most to the hoops turnaround, and amazing ride to the top of the ACC, which would you pick?

Obviously hiring Bennett was THE biggest, but of this list of 3, which in your opinion had the biggest impact. I think you could legitimately make an argument for all 3.

Getting ready to go with UVa's Tony Bennett...

Asked about going inside after a slow start, Bennett said he thought guys were a little anxious but they were still getting a lot of offensive boards. The looks were okay, they just weren't going down. He said that getting out in transition, as well as momentum at the end of the first half, really helped them going into the second half. They wanted to be inside oriented in the second half and he thought UVa was successful.

On the shot clock and if there was any impact, Bennett said he didn't think there was any impact in this game but there will be. He has told his guys that have to get moving and get into the offense with purpose.

More coming...

Hoops question for the board as he starts his final season ...

Where does MB rank among all-time Hoos? All-time Hoo guards/wings? All-time favorite Hoos?
Do you measure by team success this season, or by his individual accomplishments minus JA (after being minus JH)?
How much is system, how much is player?

I admit that number 1 on the all-time Hoo list is easy, but 2 through 5-10ish is difficult. After Ralph, I think the list includes (in no particular order) Stith, CoryA, Junior, Singletary, Harris and based solely on what older fans say, Lamp and Raker (I think those are the names that come up the most). How do guys with great individual years or that played on lesser teams rank (e.g., Mike Scott for the former, or Travis Watson for the latter). I know I'm forgetting names, so remind me the others ...

If the Hoos finish in the top 2 this season and MB is firmly in the ACC POY race, I think he's easily in the top 10. Beyond that, he's a very difficult guy to place (in a good way, as in it's underappreciated just how good he's been for a while now).
