CavsCornerVideo: Anthony Gill

Monday night in Washginton, D.C., UVa didn't play the way its coaches, players, or fans would want. For senior forward Anthony Gill, it comes down to Virginia's defense and being able to execute.

In this video interview, he talks about the loss, about how the team has to be able to face adversity given the tough schedule, about how it's "100 percent" on the players to get better defensively, and how the Cavaliers have to adjust to the way the games are called not only now but for the rest of the season.

Understanding the Charleston Classic brackets

I'm having a little challenge understanding how the Charleston Classic bracket works. (http://espnevents.com/charleston-cl...015/10/2015-Charleston-Classic-Bracket-ET.pdf). If UVA beats Bradley, we play the winner of Seton Hall-Long Beach on Friday, right? If we win the second game, we play the survivor among the top bracket (most likely Ole Miss or Okla. St.). But if we lose the second game, do we get to play again?

Guys we are a year or two away.

We miss DA and JA on defense. Next year we will have AN who will be a big upgrade over MT and then MD whose only job will be to defend the rim and his quickness and athleticism will be a big help. Then we don't have any consistently good jump shooters on this team. Next year we will have TJ and KG both off who will play because of their ability to shoot the three and to create there own shot. We will lose more games this year just because I don't we will be as good on D as last year and the year before with JA, DA, and AM the year before that. But the future is bright and this year will be fine just not quite what some thought it might be.

CavsCorner Video: Malcolm Brogdon

Though he scored 20 of his career-high 28 points in the second half of Monday night's game (including 11 straight at one point), the play of Malcolm Brogdon wasn't enough for No. 6 UVa as the Cavaliers lost at George Washington 73-68.

In this video interview, the senior guard talks about the loss, Virginia's defensive miscues, the officiating, and how the team can use the experience in D.C. to help them going forward.

Game Thoughts GW

We got exposed with them spreading the floor and them being physical with us.

We passed up open shots to take bad ones.

Offensive movement was not good tonight.

Missing JA much? Until we find someone who can knock down 3's we will see the zone a lot.

Nolte cannot guard on the wing.

Wilkins played very bad tonight.

Salt gave really good minutes tonight.

This was Michigan State type game. Beat us up. Made us shoot jumpers.

Not sure I will blame defense and missing DA. They spread the court well, but Nolte and Tobey make us damn slow and can't be on the court at the same time. Salt was a lot quicker on close outs,

With all the hype, where do we go from here? This was our worst loss other than Mich St since Tenn. We got beat up and it's that simple. A lot to improve on.

This was a disappointing effort by the team tonight!

Here's a thought, cut those stupid beards and stop trying to look cool.

This team bought into how good they are and got their lunch handed to them by B rated foreign player squad in a lower tier!

Didn't help the refs were doing some serious home cooking. All the faked flops, over the back, moving screens and GW was just allowed to hang on our guys, body check and yet our guy brushed them on those leaning in garbage throw it up to the rim crap, we were called for silly fouls. That Argentinian player at the end all but tackled Gill on the lose ball and the refs couldn't call it.

We have bigger fish to fry when you shoot a pathetic 2-10 from the three mid way and most were wide open shots.
News flash: I'm retired, in my late 50's and was at my brother's house while in Charlottesville for the GT game and walked out on his regulation outdoor court that has regulation 3 pt line done professionally and free throw lines marked off, with fiberglass back board set regulation height and I hit 6 of 10 stone cold with my younger brother running up (45) that still runs with his high school son and his team mates on the week end .

I have had both collar bones broken in my military career, and rotator cup tear in my right shoulder and have not picked up a basketball since I was at his house back in 2012 and hit 6 of 10 stone cold with him running out with hand up, stomping his foot and yelling!

Yeah yeah yeah you are going to say game action is different than just one guy running out, but I played in competitive ball teams in city leagues, big city church leagues, military leagues and overseas leagues until I was 40+ years old and could sink threes ALL DAY! NEVER had a game where I missed more than I made!

Just don't get this anemic effort and two games in a row both Perrantes and Brogdon bricking threes.

Day after GW loss-

Why did I wake up today more mad than I've been after UVA lost in about three years? Might be that I explained to my basketball team to watch the game last night and pay attention to how Virginia executes on defense and that might have been one of our worst defensive performances in years.

TB needs to figure out the best defensive lineup and in a hurry.

Someone posted that we would destroy Virginia Tech, but what teams are going to do is spread this out and make us work on the defensive end of the floor. With some kids you can stretch it or go four guards. When GW was running their flex offense they didn't have much success, but as soon as they spread the floor we were dead in the water.

I know it's too early to say we got exposed, but there were definite warning signs. Honestly did not realize how much DA was an asset until last night. And unless it's going to be Wilkins (who really had a horrible game last night)....

We have some nice guys, but to be honest we played a little scared and after getting some of the questionable calls early in the game last night we let them be the aggressor and as we've seen against Michigan State once that happens and we don't knock down shots this has been the trend.

Even though defense was a big issue last night, the fact teams will junk it up with zone plus the fact our offensive movement was bad and when GW was in man it was just as big of a problem as defense to me because we really had no flow.

Our floor spacing was just absolutely horrible most of the night and it's going to be hard to attack the basket when we are clogging up the lane. Tony has to figure that out because teams are just going to give us a three point shot if we insist on clogging the paint as horribly as we did last night.

Heard a scary scenario yesterday for football.

I had a friend tell me that he had heard that CL would announce he was retiring after next year and that they would keep ML because they would not want a lame duck AD hiring the next coach. I know CL is close to retirement and who knows if Sullivan might not then just move Oliver up so he could hire the next coach. Not likely but if CL does decided to retire at the end of next year what coach would want this job not knowing who his AD would be. The worst would be the promotion of JO.

Passive on offense

perhaps best indicator of how passive we were --- only 3 UVA players even SHOT a free throw ( brogdon-10, Tobey-2, gill-4). By comparison GW had 6 go to the line and shot 22 for 28

When game is called the way it was tonight - and perhaps all year- we MUST adjust and our guards/wings have to take the ball to the basket aggressively. Otherwise results like this be all too common
