Game Day

We need a fast start. FSU used too much energy yesterday just winning that game.

Nolte and Tobey will be key. They will try to smother our better players and these two IMO need to knock down the open shots they get. This game worries me a bit because of how dirty and physical they can play, but I really feel we won't get off to a slow start 3 games in a row.

And anyone notice the ACCT floor yesterday was really slippery?

For comparisons sake

I think this season sets up very similar to college basketball in 1991.

For a refresher UNLV was undefeated in the regular season like KY. They were a juggernaut coming off a National Title the year before. Duke was a very good team of juniors with a couple of freshmen sprinkled in. They lost a couple games late in the season including the finale to UNC. It was an awesome and improbable run by Duke. No one gave them a chance in the FInal Four to beat UNLV.

I feel that this run is going to set up similarly. The powers that be are really hoping its a DUKE/KY final so we are probably gonna be on the same side as KY. Fine by me. This could be the springboard to back to back title runs just like Duke knocking off unbeaten UNLV in 1991.

What Is Your Idea of A Successful Remainder Of The Season?

Ok, 28-2 regular season = great. To be honest, the ACC tourney means very little to me this year. Of course I want us to win it, but it doesn't mean as much this year. To me this year, it is ALL about the NCAAs. What would be considered a disappointment to you this year? In my opinion, we have to reach the Final 8. That is with or without JA. Anything less in my opinion would be a disappointment, especially the way they have been in top 2 almost all year. I think if you were to ask a Kentucky fan anything less than a Nat Title this year would be a disappointment for them. Once you get to Final 8, as someone else said, it is all about matchups. Would just be interested how others feel we need to do for this season to be considered a success from start to finish. Not saying the season wouldn't have been a success if we go out earlier, but would be a huge disappointment. So I feel everyone has a point at which they would like us go this year and be satisfied. Of course I want a title, but only 1 team will end their season with a win, but I like our chances much more than most.

OT - A possible change in the NCAAT

Obviously, this has been discussed before. Mostly I'm posting it because it has a link to the hilarious Titus article where he invoked the "TB drops the mic" scenario, which is my new secret dream. The veto and top-seed variations are interesting to me. I also agree that "geography shouldn't outweigh logic." The overall #1 seed should face the overall #8, not just the 2 seed closest to them.

Will probably never happen, but I'm forced to admit I'm intrigued by the possibility.

FWIW - an early prediction of NEXT year's no. 1 seeds

http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/jeff-goodman/post?id=4828&ex_cid=espnapi_public

Has us as a #1 seed with Kentucky, Kansas and Iowa state.

Carolina, Duke, MD and LSU as the 2s.

Syracuse as a 3, L'ville as a 4.

Not saying this means squat right now. Our (whole fan base) focus should be on the next 4 weeks, but it's nice to know that "talking heads" are acknowledging just how dominant we will be next season.

Man, ACC officials SUUUUUUUCK...

The tourney is no exception. Miller McIntyre had the ball stripped from him with 6 and change seconds left and GT down by 1. Officials took FOREVER to review the tape, even though the ESPN replay CLEARLY showed the ball touched MM last. To add insult to injury, after the lengthy video review, the refs got the call WRONG.

VT and GT clearly aren't going to make any noise in the tourney, but is it too much to ask that the refs get the call right in an end-of-game situation, especially given the 5 minute stoppage of play...Seriously, am I wrong?

All purpose hoops recruiting thread...

Sounds like we've made a strong impression, and might be in the mix. Hearing any chatter on our chances?

This is from a Michigan site in a recent interview. He doesn't identify any specific school by name, but more just what he's looking for. Sound like anyone/anywhere we may know?

"Most importantly is the school," he explained. "What do they offer
me education-wise? At the end of the day, you want to make a 40-year
decision, not a four-year decision. Basketball doesn't last forever.
There's a lot of life after retirement, and you want to have something
to fall back on. School, education, that's what I'm really looking at.

"How do they play their guards? How is the relationship with the
coaching staff and the guards? Am I going to be able to be a spiritual
leader there? I'm big in my faith, and I believe God is the only reason
we're here. Spiritually, will they help me grow better as a man?"
