Our bigs were outplayed tonight. Gill, Atkins and Tobey average 27 points and 18 rebounds per game. Tonight they only had 17 points and 8 rebounds. These 3 also had 7 turnovers. Brogdon nearly single-handedly brought us back in what was perhaps the best half of basketball ever by a UVA player. Also, I thought UNC did a great job of passing the ball against our D to find the open shooter who most often hit the shot. Tough loss. Now we will head west if we keep the #1 seed.

Well we officially get to sweat it out now. We really really need two of Duke, AZ, Nova, and Wisconsin to lose. Regardless of how confident anyone is or what Lunardi says, we are now one of 4 very talented 3 loss teams and Nova has 2 losses in a marginally easier conference. Not enough room in the inn.

I thought we had a slow start, but Duke's may be even worse. I know it is way too early, but wouldn't it be something if Duke lost! What would the NCAA selection committee do then?

Why shoot an off-balance 3 down by 3 with 29 seconds left on a quick possession? The driving the lane was working so great, I didn't understand the change of strategy. I thought that play guaranteed our loss when we could've gotten a high percentage 2 to cut the lead to 1 and maybe even an ole' school 3 with a possible foul.

Aside from the blowout @Wake, we haven't really looked like ourselves since the first half against L'ville at home. Or @UNC, if you want to point to a full game.

I'm definitely very concerned about our slow starts, the stagnant periods on offense, the major uptick in turnovers - those are the sorts of things that will cost us a chance at winning a national championship or at least making the Final Four. On the flip side, we continue to battle better than any team in the country. It's damn hard to put the final nail in the Virginia coffin and we make sure it takes all 40 minutes if anyone's going to do it.

So I'm trying to put into perspective what I've been seeing and I think I've got it. Playing as we were pre-JA injury, I think we were as much a lock for the Final Four as Kentucky and easily second most likely to win the title. We were a historically great team not credited as such due to Kentucky.

Since JA's injury, we have been last year's team ... which is still pretty damn good.

1 seed or 2 seed, I think we're a very safe bet to make the Sweet 16, but if the guy's keep playing the way they have the last month, every round thereafter will be a crapshoot. If they can somehow recapture their early season form, I honestly think we could cruise into the Elite Eight and then be a strong favorite to make the Final Four.

Thoughts from the board as to whether this takes a toll on them?

Hopefully the positive from MB's foul trouble yesterday is that he is fresh as can be tonight ... guess we'll see.

ACC tourney time I tell you this story. Our best 2 players, albeit with one less than 100%, come out and hit 2/10 shots and combine for 10 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist. No problem you say, Anthony Gill will pick up the slack, after all, he is our third option but could be a lot of teams go to guy, so he can and will get it done. Just look at the last 7 games. He is 36/53 from the floor shooting a scorching 69% and leading us with about 14 points a game. No, he only takes 7 shots and hits less than half of those. This could be a problem, But hey, that kid at the point, London Perrantes from L.A. can get hot and drain a bunch of threes, just ask Miami. No, didn't happen today. In fact he didn't hit a three all day. He did play the point well and dish out 9 dimes, but we needed points. Well, the only senior we have has had some games where he has shown that he could score if needed, and in the last 5 games he has been scoring almost 11 points per game, so he will step up, we will be ok. Nope, 6 points. Damn!! So all 5 of our regular starters have at least a slightly off day offensively and our two leading scorers have a bad day. Not one of our regular starters hits his scoring average, no not one!! Oh yea, BTW, we almost double our turnover avg also, with 14 to's. Now to add to our woes, a kid is in the staring lineup who was recruited as a big time shooter, but he is shooting 35% and only 27 % from behind the arc. There have been many here wondering why his minutes havent been cut. Those numbers are only that high because he has been shooting a little better lately. But still, he is under 60% from the line.... and he was brought here because he could shoot! But he has been more of what we expected lately. Now, We have a 7 footer that has been a slight dissappointment, only because he has played a little soft. So, like it or not, today we needed our 6 and 7 options to come through. And they did. And you know what? I wasn't surprised. Plus, in the second half we went abourt 10 min wit only about 5 points(didnt look up to verify, my be off, but not much) But our team is great because we are a 3D team: Depth, Desire. and Defense. A lot of good players, who work hard and prepare hard and are willing to play hard D for 35 seonds every trip down the floor. How many teams in America could survive with every single regular starter below thier average? That is the reason I feel when or if we get beat, it won't be to a team that is not a very good team.

Need to ratchet it up....however what I saw today from UNC.....the same perplexing undisciplined play......

I think this would really help Calipari, but it's not a terrible plan.

Key Points to the Plan
• Would move the date college players can withdraw from the NBA draft back about five weeks -- from late April to late May.


• Underclassmen would participate in an invitation-only combine in mid-May that would allow NBA teams to evaluate them and offer feedback on their draft prospects. Combine would include seniors, underclassmen and international players (currently, if an underclassman submits official paperwork to declare for draft, he forfeits his eligibility and cannot return to school).


• Invitation-only combine would replace the traditional Chicago draft camp.


• If a player submits draft paperwork and is not invited to the NBA combine, the recommendation is to withdraw from the draft and return to school.


• Could be voted on by the NCAA in January and take effect in time for the 2016 draft.


• It's the work of the NBA, the NCAA and the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

My eight-year-old came up with a great catch phrase watching a game last week ... he started chanting "V-fense" instead of defense, holding up a little V with his first two fingers (I think it was in response to the Louisville fans flashing the two-fingers-and-thumb UL sign).

We play D on such a different level, I kind of like it. Sort of like the "Cavalanche", it describes a uniquely Wahoo concept!

Is there anyone in Greensboro who knows what kind of prices are being paid for decent seats for the semi's and championship game? I'd love to be able to see the Hoos in the semi's and finals but don't want to drive all the way from Chesapeake and find out the tickets are outrageous unless you want to sit on the roof. Thanks for any info.

We better not be looking past UNCheat,Duke will be there, but we must focus on beating the Cheats first.

Huge game today for Nolte. We wouldn't have won today without his offense. He has hung in there and fought through his extended slump. Congratulations to him.

Tobey played like a MAN today at both ends. This is the PG-C combo I've been waiting for.

Some of the worst officiating I've EVER seen. But will the ACC do anything about it? Nope. When Hamilton and Bennett are BOTH having to be restrained from going after you, smfh.

I am so glad I was wrong about Nolte continuing to get playing time. Guy made some clutch 3s, and played very solid defense. I appreciate Greenberg giving him his props in the postgame.

He spent most of the second half denigrating our team, to the point his announcing partner said "You are so down on Virginia..." He all but said we will lose to FL State, that we are not worthy of our rank and that without JA we are essentially beat nobody and we are nobody after JA got hurt and we proved nothing. He said all our wins were so close, we can not score and can not win by scoring (ignoring the actual facts and the WF win at their place by 35 pts, their worst home loss ever). I got tired of listening to him. I will watch the ACC network if he is on any more games and he will join my hate list with later, Paulus, Jay Williams and Coach K. Hoop we make him eat his words. We need for MB to shut their super frosh down, cause that kid went off today!
