The in spite of and because of reasons for the loss to SMU

In spite of reasons - Buchanan had his best career game at UVA by leading the team in points (11) and rebounds (15); he added 2 blocks and 2 assists. SMU was just 5 for 21 (23.8%) from behind the line, and 3 of these were in the last 2 minutes of the game.
Because of reasons - None of our starters scored in double figures, and the three starting guards shot a combined 5 of 24 and were 0 for 24 from deep. Virginia was outrebounded 39 to 30 and outscored in the paint 36 - 24.

Transfer Commitment! UVa lands JMU WR/KR Cam Ross

UVa picked up another transfer commitment today, per a source, with JMU wide receiver Cam Ross making the call for the Hoos. Ross began his career at UConn and has 151 career catches for 1,799 yards and 9 TDs. At JMU in 2024, he had 37 catches for 443 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was also All-Sun Belt as a kick returner. Ross should be a slot option for UVa and add some speed to the receiver room. He also took visits to VT and UCF

UVA women's team had an epic choke at the end; TONS of unnecessary turnovers that led to at least a dozen points for Duke; Coaching also to blame.

We were winning and we get in the 4th Qtr and had just DUMB turnovers just trying to pass to a teammate coughing up the ball for easy uncontested layups for Duke. We played tough defense for 3 quarters and got sloppy, lazy on guarding in the 4th, coupled with TONS of turnovers that did us in.

Coaching staff really need to go look in the mirror when they allowed Hurd who couldn't guard for nothing today and made bad decisions that led to turnovers that allowed the comeback.

Let's be clear, I get Hurd is a Freshman, but she is a crappy, lazy defender at this moment, like McGee that gets lost and doesn't hustle back to have her man torch her for an easy layup.

Clark also runs around guarding like an Australia sheep dog running around in an open field from person to person not staying with her own person and leaving them open for wide open 3pt shots.

We had this game and you had Latimore, twice that got rebounds and stood with the ball and allowed Duke defender to walk up and tie up the ball. She has to know not to stand with the ball available to wrap up.

Latimore had an overall good day and has greatly improved from week to week. But she has to learn not to stand and freeze to let even a small guard to walk up and tie up the ball. Latimore had also a really baffling up close hand off to Johnson that ended up in a turnover.

Then Noyan turned as she was trying to say a ball and tossed it right to a Duke player.

This team has potential and Defense is what is holding them back the most. You can't make a shot or miss one and allow three Duke players beat you down the floor. Again I saw Hurd and McGee basically look like they were in a light jog getting back and got burned numerous times for easy fast break layups.

They were so close to winning and sabotaged themselves. Duke didn't beat UVA today, UVA beat themselves with the number of turnovers down the stretch that got Duke easy points.

The in spite of and because of the Virginia loss to Stanford

Virginia lost in spite of the scoring of McKneely ( 22 points on 5 of 11 three pointers) and Cofie 11 points. They combined for 32 points while the rest of the team scored a total of 33 points. The because of was
rebounding and turnovers. Virginia had 12 turnovers which led to 22 points by Stanford whole the Hoos scored 4 points on 6 Stanford turnovers. Stanford outrebounded Virginia 34 to 23 which produced 19 points for Stanford and 8 for Virginia. This has become a recurring theme.
While we have a deficit in athleticism, brawn, and speed, we also seem to lack schemes and development.

2025 Football Schedule & Record

To characterize the strength of schedule next season as extremely weak (even by lowly ACC standards) would be a huge understatement. I'm not sure that we will play a ranked team at any point the entire season and several of the teams are just bad football teams. Virginia should win a minimum of 8-9 games next season. Anything short of that would be an abject failure and a complete waste of time and money.

So does any one think if Bennett was still coaching, he would keep McKneely out there for those minutes when he is struggling to score and can't guard

This is getting so obvious now that McKneely has hit a brick wall in regards to scoring and can't guard anyone for being so slow.

I think he has been exposed badly that he struggles to even make a layup. That block was brutal to see him thrown to the floor like a rag doll. His last several layup/fast break layups were cringe worth to do a bizarre 180 turning of your back to the basket as if you are afraid you are going to be blocked by a smaller guard and blow the layup completely.

So does anyone believe that McKneely would be losing minutes if Bennett was still here, especially on his lack of defense and being blown by at will. Several times his man was wide, and I mean wide open out at the 3pt line for easy 3s as McKneely rushes out late with just a hand up after the ball has been released.

Looking at a different line up with people that can shoot and defend and rebound, I would now start Cofie, Saunders, Rohde, Murray, Sharma as a starting group.

If McKneely comes out Saturday against Stanford and struggles to get off a shot for just 3 points and make just one of two free throws he has to sit for the betterment of the team.

Ames sorry is worthless. He has himself as his primary shooter with blinders on when he has wide open teammates or back door alley op passes. At least Rohde has had a few nice passes to big men back door.

Ames has had several fast break double teams and he takes it himself to complete the embarrassment fail. He is not a team player at all and has shown a laziness for Defense also not guarding his guy and leaving him wide open out at the three. Announcers have called him out several times this season on his selfish play and poor D. Also his poor passing that has led to fast break turnovers for the other team.

Transfer Commitment #14: Illinois OG, Kevin Wigenton

Kevin Wigenton, a transfer OG from Illinois, has announced his commitment to UVa.

The 6’5 330 pound guard out of New Jersey started his career at Michigan State. He redshirted in 2021, before playing as a backup mainly in 2022. He played in all 12 games in 2023 at MSU, starting six. He was all academic B1G both years.

This year at Illinois he was a backup guard and center on a very experienced line. Wigenton has one year remaining and will enroll for this semester.

While he had an under the radar recruitment in the portal this year, during his recruitment last year he had offers from almost a dozen P4 programs in B1G, SEC, ACC. Login to view embedded media

What is up with the homecookin at Dallas (live less than 15 minutes from Stadium in Arlington). Outrageous tackle/gang tackle after the whistle blown.

WR Brown catches a pass out in the flats and is stopped and stood up, but you had a Dallas defender with the guys leg dragging him for two yards backward and bending his leg backwards after whistles are blown then another defender comes up and hits him up in his pads and helmet and slams him with a third guy piling on. WTF?!?!?!?!

Then Olamide Zaccheaus is wide open down field in end zone due to trick play has ball throw to him and he bricks the catch wide open in the end zone.

Just total train wreck squad that showed up today. Line can't block nobody, WR dropping passes, and McCaffery runs into Crowder on punt return to cough up the ball to Dallas. Unbelievable.

Hoos in the NBA

Reece Beekman is finally getting a chance to play some in the NBA after his trade to Brooklyn. Had a career high of 7 points the previous game and broke it with 9 points last night so hopefully that is a sign that he has cemented his place in Brooklyn's rotation. Checked in on the stats of the other active players we have now and they are doing fairly well led by Murphy and Hunter who are both around 20 ppg (for Hunter that is huge considering they drafted a player at #1 that effectively plays the same position he does), Brogdon still effective at 13 ppg, Jerome and Huff having found good spots for them at 10 and 9 ppg and Hauser still a key rotation piece in Boston with almost 8 ppg. Dunn has earned a starting spot the last 5 games and for the last 7 games is averaging 27 minutes per game (averaged below 20 prior to that) so he is coming on as well. Nice to see so many of our former players doing so well in the NBA, just hope it's not that long before we get some more into the NBA again (only ones on this year's team I can think of that might have a chance with lots of improvement are Coffie and McKneely and for McKneely that is only because he can really shoot the three).
