Dunn was the only double figure scorer for the Cavs with 19 points on 8 of 10 shooting, most of which were lobs or put backs. He also was the leading rebounder with 11. Beekman, McKneely, and Groves each contributed 9 points with the latter two hitting 3 of 4 three pointers. The team made 8 of 17 from deep and 7 of 10 from the foul line. Beekman had 9 of the team's 18 assists and 5 of our 14 steals. Another win on the road keeps Virginia in good shape for the ACC tournament.

Game in one hour and no comments or previews? I know the Cardinals are bad, but have we shown enough with our one road win to make us believe we will take this one? A win is meh for the ratings, but a loss would be pretty bad.

Uva will start the year at home as we knew, before heading out for a conference game at Wake Forest for week 2. October features a stretch of 3 home games against BC, Louisville and UNC with a road trip to Clemson. The Hoos finish the year with 3 out of 4 on the road: at Pitt, at ND, SMU at home, at VT.

The team started slow this season, at least partially due to several injuries. After dual meet losses to Wisconsin and George Mason and disappointing placings in open meets, Virginia wrestlers were impressive in every weight class today.

Baseball will be starting at the Dish in a couple of weeks. Wake is projected to have the best team in the ACC and one of the top teams in the country, and Clemson, Duke, NCSU, and Virginia will be fighting for second place in the ACC. It seems that Hodges, O'Connor, and Woolfolk are now the top three to be starting on the mound on the weekend. We have a number of pitchers battling it out for week day starts or relief pitchers. This group includes returning pitchers, transfers, and first years. Anderson and Ferrence will likely be starting at either catcher, first base ,or designated hitter. Ford, a first year, will also contend for time at first or dh. Becker, a transfer, and Godbout and Hanson, who played last year, will likely start at either 2nd of 3rd base. O'Ferrall will be the shortstop. The four primary contenders for the three outfield spots are Didawick, Saucke, Stephan, and Whalen, another transfer.
The softball team recently received a 2025 commitment from Karly Meredith, a right hand pitcher and middle infielder from Wisconsin.

The 'Hoos are set to host a quality list of prospects on campus for Junior Day this weekend, we've been able to confirm 14 prospects and I have a few messages out that I'm waiting to hear back on as well which could possibly be added to the list. I'll be going through them in no particular order below.

Some of you are probably familiar with the 2025 athlete out of Newport News, he's one of the best all-around playmakers in Virginia and the fifth-best prospect in the state according to Rivals. He has an elite offer sheet and has recently picked up offers from Ohio State, Auburn, and Penn State, there's plenty of competition here. That being said, Delhomme is very high on the coaching staff's board and is a priority recruit in this cycle, they're going to do everything they can to try and keep him in the state. This is a big visit for the Cavs this weekend, to say the least.

Another priority target, Reid recently confirmed with Cavs Corner that he'll be on campus this weekend for a Junior Day visit. He picked up an offer from the 'Hoos last month and quickly became one of their top overall targets on the offensive side of the ball. I'm not sure they'll be able to get a commitment out of him anytime soon but if he doesn't commit this visit, I'm sure we'll be seeing more of him in the future whether that's on an unofficial visit in the spring or an official visit in the summer. Virginia Tech, Maryland, Pittsburgh, and Indiana are among his other notable visits.

Belin has a quality offer sheet so far with Boston College, Duke, Minnesota, Syracuse, Temple, Wake Forest, and West Virginia all showing interest. It wouldn't be shocking to see the Cavs enter the mix this weekend.

The Woodberry Forest School standout will be back on campus this weekend for Junior Day. He's another high-level athlete that the Cavs are making a priority including a large chunk of the coaching staff dropping in on his one basketball game the other week. Tony Elliott and company would love to get this one wrapped up sooner rather than later.

A quarterback name to watch going forward is Hugeuenot's Jason Wright. He has one offer from Houston Christian and has seen interest from Coastal Carolina, Princeton, and Yale as well. Notably, he had a quality performance down at the national combine in San Antonio earlier this month.

Scruggs doesn't hold an offer yet from the Cavs but one coming this weekend wouldn't be surprising. He currently holds offers from James Madison, Liberty, Marshall, Pittsburgh, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia.

DE Jeffrey Hairston (Franklin County - Rocky Mount, VA)
Hairston is a prospect who is emerging within the state as a potential FBS defensive end. He's receiving interest from the 'Hoos but also Liberty and Virginia Tech. He has no offers yet in his recruitment.

OL Carsen Murray (Woodberry Forest - Culpepper, VA)

Does not hold any offers, was also on campus in September for a gameday visit.

The women just beat FSU 91-87 with Taylor again extremely limited by foul trouble and relying on Brown, McGhee and Johnson throughout the 4th quarter. Johnson finished 14-20 from the field with 35 pts including 4-4 from the line late with a two point lead each time. We struggled defensively, but were dynamite on offense shooting 47% from 3 and over 50% overall. Great to finally get the first league win especially with two 1st years and a 2nd year leading the way (also Noyan who has hardly played as a 1st year tied a career high with 8 pts and valuable minutes with Taylor in foul trouble).

The Cavs used defense and rebounding to earn a hard fought victory. Dunn and Minor led the offensive effort. Dunn was the leading scorer with 13 points and leading rebounder with 12 while Minor was one of five to score double figures and was the second leading rebounder with 9 which helped lead Virginia to a 54 to 32 advantage on the boards. NC State played a very tight pressing defense. The Wolfpack had 10 steals, forced 15 turnovers, and held Virginia to 4 for 17 shooting from behind the arc. Murray came off the bench to tie Beekman with 11 points by making both of his 3-point shot attempts and 3 of 4 frm the foul line. He led the team with 19 in +/-.

The women played another ranked ACC team tonight in Notre Dame. Ended up losing 86-76. Shot a bit better than our averages, but gave up 44 free throws! Taylor was again in foul trouble all night and fouled out along with Clarkson while Brunelle contributed 0 points. We are getting beat up on the inside in league play with Taylor in foul trouble almost every game lately and nobody to really take up the slack inside when she is out. Our young guards Johnson, Clark and McGhee all played really well and combined for 46 of the 76 points. Tough schedule coming up with 3 more ranked teams in our next 4 games with only a home game with a non-ranked Pitt mixed in. If they don't win that Pitt game they could be looking at an 0-10 start in league play. Really tough schedule this year and certainly a more talented and deeper team (without the injuries as well) than last year, but just not showing in the results. Hope they can knock one of the ranked teams off (or more) coming up and get some positive momentum going.

The usual suspects dominated the statistics as the starters scored 64 points. McKneely led the scoring with 20 points by hitting 6 of his 9 three-point attempts.. Beekman scored 19 points and had 11 assists, 6 rebounds, and 2 steals. Minor scored 11 points, and Dunn contributed 9 points and led the team with 10 rebounds, including 5 on the offensive boards. Rohde was frequently our secondary ball handler, played good defense, and scored 5 points. The Yellow Jackets had 13 turnovers which led to 21 points for the Hoos.
Georgia Tech led by 11 points around the middle of the first half before Virginia went on a run to take a 33 to 29 lead at the end of the half. Virginia extended the lead to 15 points before Georgia Tech scored 9 unanswered points in the second half.

I don't want to post about a former coach but it's nice to see that Kirk Garner, Matt Johns, Dante Wilkins, Joe Spaziani, and Evan Butts are getting opportunities to further their coaching careers in Albuquerque. I wish them the best and hope they all have an opportunity to develop into a head coach some day.

Minor and Harris had their best games this year. Minor started and tied Beekman as the leading scorer with 16 points and was second to Dunn in rebounding with 5. Harris led Virginia with 5 assists; he only scored 5 points, but they all seemed to come in important times. Buchanan joined McKneely with 8 points and had 3 rebounds in 11+ minutes on the floor. The Hokies kept the score close by making 11 of 30 attempts from behind the arc while Virginia was just 4 of 14, but Virginia outscored Tech 36 to 20 in the paint and made 7 more fouls shots, many of which came in the last few minutes of the game.
