Mid season firing must happen

The fact Cuse has run that fake punt the last 3 weeks and we didn't see it is the story of this unprepared staff.

We can't wait to fire London. At the very least give the kids some new blood. Who could be interm? Who knows because this whole staff sucks.

But, the London era must end now. If this school wants to regain the trust of the fans we FIRE him tomorrow. Sorry if that hurts anyone's feelings on the board. PS, we are one of the worst Power 5 football teams in the country.

The state of the Washington Redskins program

First let me started by sarcastically THANKING D Jax and Jordon Reed for milking dinks and being unavailable AGAIN. Both played a big part into their injuries in the first place. Both showed up not in playing shape milking other injuries up until game one of the season. No excuse in not being in shape and ready being paid that money they are getting, but I understand the history, culture of this organization of letting overpaid prima donnas to show up lay down and take Snyder's money.

Next, the Redskins have extremely green WRs out their and most are poor route runners, poor field awareness when it comes to the DBs covering them and having a habit, like on both picks today, not paying attention to field awareness and going from a WRs to spectators and ALLOWING DBs to just step in front and get EASY picks.

Did you see Grant back pedaling and almost stopped as the ball was thrown along the sidelines when Reeves jumps the route for an easy pick and he was just standing there watching unlike Marshall on the other side that comes back and blocks/muscles out the DB to the ball.

Grant has created 5 picks for Cousins with a rookie year (last year) slip like in the Atlanta game, and the same back pedal/spectating/waiting on the ball and not aware the DB is running up for the pick.

Did you see WR Brand Marshall on the Jets? The ball was severely under thrown and Breeland was coming back for the easy pick and Marshall had the presence of a GOOD wide receiver and come back, muscle out Breeland that had a dead pick, who got caught waiting on the EASY pick and Marshall out muscled him to the ball and got a she string catch then Breeland assumes he isn't going to catch it and lets up so Marshall can shove him easily away to make his way to the end zone.

Grant or NONE of the first year, second year and especially butter fingers Roberts that is a tip/INT turnover machine ever come back for the ball. They ALL continue to try and continue to run down field to catch it around their waste, even when you can see on instant replay, the DBs are already in position to intercept the ball and the WR is too deep is now seen on instant replay watching them catch and he becomes the DB!

Did you see the Deep ball to First year Crowder? He has two D players closing in on him and he literally continues to outrun the ball he is tracking to get out of the way of two DB/SF that step in front for an easy pick with ZERO resistance from Crowder. Crowder is their most reliable WR and he had several critical in the hands drops, Grant had two drops WIDE open that just didn't have a bow on it! Everyone wants to blame Kirk Cousins for the WRs poor route running, unaware WRs that know how to shield the ball from the DBs.

Then we get an on side kick recovery to just fumble it away. How do you fumble a ball out of your hands and chest if you are NFL caliber player? Incredible! Then we get a stop on 4th and 5 a dimwit runs into the kicker. How hard is it to pull up and not run into the kicker for crying out loud.

This is the state of this team and the coaching staff that continues to make DUMB play calls to unreliable players in critical times just to give up a pick or butter finger drops. Roberts is benched for being a tip drill machine and butter fingers, then the staff puts him in at crunch time to just show why he was benched. Real smart on Gruden's 20 something year old genius OC.

Again, GOOD or ABOVE Average WRs know how to come back and shield off DBs for easy picks. In fairness we have basically practice squad WR and second year 5th stringers out there but neither are above average yet. Too many spectators when the ball is in the air and no common sense to come back or bat the ball down if you are not going to take the effort to out muscle or shield off the DB.

It's frustrating watching this team, players that are being paid big bucks that could make a difference but take themselves out, to sit when they could probably play some, and a green OC that is also scared and too predictable. Sorry for the rant, but this team is it's worse enemy!

Weekend Wrap: Syracuse Edition (with video)

Positives and negatives. That's essentially how every game has to be evaluated. Ultimately, wins tell the tale. But within the win/loss aspect are the details through which one can figure out how good (or bad) a team really is and will continue to be.

Along with winning a game, you want your team to do two things each time out there: Have more positives than negatives and improve on mistakes of the past.

For UVa on Saturday, getting a win over Syracuse was the unequivocal mission. The Cavaliers absolutely had to have it. That's not up for debate and it's important to not lose sight of that reality when evaluating the positives and negatives.

But at the same time, it's impossible not to see repeated issues and make note of them as well.

There was definitely good for the Wahoos in their 44-38 triple-overtime victory over the Orange on Saturday. In getting a win in its first OT game since 2011, Virginia also got its first win when trailing after three quarters since beating Miami three years ago. The Hoos had a 19-play drive (kept alive early by a boneheaded facemask penalty) to send the game into overtime, which is tied for the second-longest drive in school history. Still, they went 88 yards and managed the end of regulation well.

The defense forced a pair of turnovers, scoring on one of them, and allowed just three points in the second half in addition to a mere 99 yards. But it also gave up 21 points in the second quarter, though admittedly two of those scores were on coaching blunders more than anything else.

As such, there were so many places that this game shouldn't have been close. Whereas last week, UVa didn't have much business being in the game late against Pitt, here the Cavaliers didn't have any business being in overtime.

The last 2:49 of the first half, for example, was full of frustration. The Hoos, leading 14-7, managed to get the Orange into a 4th and 4 from the 43-yard line and called timeout (their first of the half) to set up a potential end-of-half drive. Rather than setting up for another scoring opportunity knowing they'd get the ball back to start the second half, the Cavaliers fell asleep and gave up another brutal fake punt. By the time there were 24 seconds left until intermission, UVa had turned it over and promptly given up another TD one play later to go down 21-14.

Very few teams with the kind of overwhelming issues that Virginia causes itself every week are going to be able to overcome that kind of turnaround. It's actually pretty incredible that the Cavaliers did in this game.

Perhaps even more important, though, is this reality: These players needed something good to go their way. And if there's anything true in sports it's that confidence begets confidence. It's impossible to say for sure that the Wahoos will use this experience (the good as well as the bad) and do something positive with it next week and the week after, etc. It's also impossible to know for sure that they won't.

But what is a certainty is that this one goes down as a victory, a flawed one in many respects.

Virginia's schedule is going to get rough considering the Hoos need four of the six remaining games to be wins in order to make it to the postseason. Is Carolina beatable? Sure. Is Georgia Tech a shadow of the team many expected? Sure. Are Miami, Duke, and Virginia Tech beatable? Sure.

But to do so, it can't be the team that showed up for the last 2:49 of the first half. It has to be the team that scored on three-straight OT possessions to win, one that will have to improve in a lot of ways. The grit they showed, though, could be something to build on.

This was a game UVa had to have and it got the job done. And that's good because what is asked of the Cavaliers from here on out will very challenging.

Positives and negatives. That's what it will all ultimately come down to in the end.

Moore helps the Hoos score another on D

Senior defensive lineman Mike Moore had another good game for the Cavaliers, forcing another fumbles that UVa turned into a TD. He finished with five tackles, including 1.5 sacks. In this video he talks about his game, the result, and the mindset of the team.

Mizzell's biggest game comes at the right time

For junior running back Taquan Mizzell being [ticked] off at himself for a first quarter fumble turned into quite the fire in the gut. The former Bayside standout, who was directly responsible for SU's first score, finished with 127 all-purpose yards and a pair of TDs. He had a career-high 10 receptions and reached 100 in his career in just 28 games. Mizzell talked after the game about his mindset following his fumble and what became his first multi-TD game as a Wahoo.

No quit in this team!

A lot of people calling for a 1-11 season got shocked tonight. A lot of people who decided the players have quit got shocked tonight.

Fantastic final drive. Three touchdowns in OT. We got it done when it counted most. The frustrating thing these past three years hasn't been that we haven't fired CML. The truly frustrating thing is this team is capable of playing this way for four quarters every week and we just can't get it figured out. What could have been.

Should have one more win coming. Maybe three. Can't see any way of saving CML's job unless there's a miraculous turnaround starting with this finish, so this might have been a perfect day for UVA fans. A Homecoming win that probably won't keep us from getting a new coach.

Really proud of this team. Great things ahead.

Go Hoos!!!

Help Me!!! There IS a Sucker born almost every minute.......

And for all the other minutes, there's me!! Enter the Pats/ Colts game tonight. I have a friend that, on a rare occasion, enjoys a small friendly wager. Super nice guy, but I hear he hangs out with a rough crowd, though!! ha ha He does this little thing where he will let me choose whether I think the 2 teams in a game will score more or less than an amount he or his associates set. I have the feeling he is always trying to trick me, though. SO, he says that I can choose over or under 53 1/2 points in this game. My first thought is with Tom Brady and Deflategate on his mind, this being the game he would have been returning from suspension had it not been reversed by a federal judge, how this team did in 2007 and the Colts D, Is that really for both teams?? Brady says he hopes they score 60 and I think they might. Am I a sucker who my nice friend is just trying to take advantage of??

DB technique on a deep throw...The breakdown for the backseat DB

This post is for all the of the backseat defensive backs that assume that they know everything there is to know about being a defensive back. You CANNOT always turn your head back to find the ball verses a deep throw. If you are in a trail position and you are running to catch up with the receiver...YOU CANNOT...I repeat...CANNOT turn and look for the ball. If you do then you will lose contact of where the receiver is located and you lose speed. If you are in a trail position, you have to play through the hands. NOW, if you are running even with a receiver, that is when you can turn back to look for the ball because you now have contact with him; you can lean on him; you can disrupt his stride; and you can use the boundary as an extra defender. I hope that this explains DB technique on a deep ball a little better for you. I'm here for debate if necessary.

UVA wins, Va Tech loses

Always a good week end when Tech loses, especially when we get a rare win. At eats around Roanoke there will not be many Chokie flags flying and talk of how they are going to run the table and win the ACC and go to the OB, yada, yada, yada. Beamer's hang dog look on the sidelines is getting more and more special. If they don't turn it around he may just quit and sell hot dogs for a living.

I was wrong

I predicted, before the season, that we'd go 1-11. So, I was wrong about that and I'll admit it and have no problem doing so.

The problems with this team and coaching staff still persist, however. I heard during the broadcast that Syracuse has run successful fake punts in previous games during the season, and yet we looked totally surprised by it when they ran one at the end of the first half. That drive led to a TD.

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse by saying that Fairchild has become so predictable. Syracuse was sitting on so many screen passes, it was like they knew our playbook. Why he doesn't open things up for the entire game is beyond me. Anyone with a brain can see that Thorpe and Severin are two of the better receivers in the conference. THROW IT UP!

In the end, we should have won this game going away, but instead it took a miraculous 90-ish yard drive at the end of the game to tie it and triple overtime to win it.

I've never felt so disappointed after a loss before. I don't feel excited at all. I mean, Syracuse stinks, and we almost lost because of the same mistakes we've made during every game all season.

With UNC on deck, a team London is 0-5 against, it's hard for me to feel positive going into next weekend.
