Even though the teams and divisions were already decided, this was an important game for both teams. Tech jumped out to a 7-0 lead by scoring 3 runs in the first inning and 4 runs in the second.. Virginia scored in the third on a two run home run by Saucke. Virginia batters left a total of 15 runners on base and were 2 for 16 with runners in scoring position in spite of getting a total of 18 hits. Virginia gained a tie score in the seventh when O'Ferrall walked, Stephan singled, and Saucke brought O' Ferrall home with another single. Ford and Ference followed with home runs. Both teams scored once in the eighth. There was no more scoring until the thirteenth inning. Tech scored without a hit to take a 9 to 8 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Anderson led off with a walk and scored on a walk-off home run by Didawick.
Coady was the starting pitcher and gave up 5 runs on 6 hits. He was relieved by Woolfolk in the second after Coady had given up 2 doubles. Woolfolk allowed a walk and two doubles before getting out of the inning. Woolfolk pitched the third, fourth, and fifth innings without allowing a hit. He was relieved by Tonas, who pitched 2 innings and allowed just 1 hit. Teel came in and pitched 2.1 innings and gave upe up 4 hits but just 1 run. Barker pitched 1.2 innings and gave up 1 hit but no runs. Hungate pitched the final two inning and allowed no hits but 1 run. He got the win (7-1)
Ford got 4 hits, and Saucke got 3.
The Virginia win gave the Hoos the 4 seed in the ACC tournament. The four home runs extended the single season record.
