Deep Dive: Today @justin ferber looks at how UVa is performing in some key metrics compared to last season and breaks down what those numbers say about the Wahoos.

So it looks like Armstrong lost to Louisville this past weekend and has been benched going forward.

He has a TD-INT record of 5 TDs and 6 INTS. Interestedly

Colandrea in his true freshman season also has the same TD - INT; 5-6, but he is averaging more yards a game with a higher Quarterback rating.

Any news on how his UVa visit went? I guess if we can survive the weekend without him committing to Duke then we are still in good shape?

Watching NCSU vs Louisville. ESPN announcers said some have been wanting QB Morris who played pretty well last year to play over BA. Anae said no change at QB, said people haven’t seen the real BA yet at NCSU. Hmmmm.

Seems like a lot of similarities between Tobey and Buchanan. Tobey came in as a top 100 recruit (around 75 IIRC), as does Buchanan. Simialr size and bulk as 1st years. Just looking back at Tobey's 1st year. He played in every game and averaged around 15mpg. This was with Mitchell/ Atkins starting early on and Tobey PT being more matchup driven later in the season. Many similar frontcourt dynamics this year. Dunn/ Minor seem set to start. Leaves Buchanan as the "first off the bench" big, If he can produce 15mpg and scoring rebounding and D similar to Tobey it makes this team pretty solid inside.

I realize that our football staff in limited by the scarcity of ACC level talent and playable depth, but the refusal to try something new confounds me. I understand that the staff would like to have a viable running attack, but we do not, and BC has a good run defense. Our stats show that we had 29 attempts at running and gained 59 yards for a smidge over 2 yards per carry. On the other hand, we completed 22 of 34 passes for 247 yards and a 7.3 yards per pass average. While this stat is nothing to give me the warm fuzzies, it is better than 2, and we did this without involving the tight ends or running backs as receivers.
While this is partially caused by using tight ends and backs as blocking support for the Oline, occasional use would give the defense something else to consider.

Hello fellow Wahoos. I have been a member here for 20+ years. I moved with my family to Norway in 2008, and thanks to GDPR legislation in Europe and Rivals unwillingness to comply with that legislation (gotta wonder why because it relates to customer privacy), my connection to this site disappeared a few years ago. I tried to get back on, but was geo-blocked. I have finally found a workaround and can see this site again for the first time in years. In these "dark" years, I have continued to pay for my subscription to CavsCorner because I appreciate the work that Brad, Justin, Dave and crew put together to bring UVA information into the hearts of fans.

What has happened since I last posted? Well, my oldest son graduated with a degree in systems engineering from UVA while winning a national championship in rowing for the Hoos. Son number two, for those who remember, is a guitarist enjoying the international stage. Child number three, my daughter, travels the world playing Team Handball for Team USA. My youngest son and 4th child chose Stanford over UVA, and then conference realignment created a very unexpected Civil War in our family. My wife and I are both UVA graduates, and all four kids grew up Wahoos. Long story short, I am happy to be back.

FWIW, I am very concerned about the state of our football program. I had no expectation that we would beat Tennessee, but with the exception of Maryland, all other games should have been wins. We find ways to lose and boneheaded penalties do not make it easier. We should have been no worse then 3-2 at this point, but we stand 0-5. Can Tony Elliott turn this around? Maybe, but will players, fans, recruits and Carla Williams give him enough leash? I am not sure. For an AD, this is an especially tough decision when this coach was "your guy" and someone who has clearly handled the 1-15-41 tragedy as well as could be hoped. I hope Elliott and the team can dig deep and turn things around, but there is too much stupidity happening on the field, and that is an indictment on the coaching. My salvation right now is that an underrated basketball team will tip off its season in two months.

Regardless, it is good to be back. Brad, you may now credit me for several years of membership dues without access. Kidding, of course! Seriously! Thank you for all you have done and will continue to do for UVA!

I just got through with the game and I must say we don't have an o lineman that should be playing at any FBS team. It is the worst line I have ever seen.

Things will kick off in Chestnut Hill in about a half hour as the Hoos look to get their first win of the year. I'll have updates in a bit in this thread.

It pains me to say it, but the contrast between our program and Duke’s could not be more stark. They are a better coached team, across the board. I can’t explain the how or why, but they do most of the little things well, unlike Virginia. Solid defense and a balanced offense. Just took a one point lead over ND in the fourth quarter. I refuse to believe they should be able to recruit better than us, but the eyes don’t lie. Tough to stomach.

Looking at the scores in the TE era it’s crazy to think he is 2-6 in one score games. I know I’m not the biggest TE fan but I do like how he learned from his mistake at Maryland took a chance before half and turned it into 7 points today so he did learn from a mistake. If he could find a way somehow to win these one score games he could possibly even start building momentum for the program.

It is amazing how poorly the US golfers play in the Ryder Cup when it is hosted by Europe. Absolutely embarrassing.

When will this be announced

The women got their first ACC win tonight with a four set win over Syracuse. First time they've beat them in two decades.

Definitely as excited about the start of this year's bball season for both Men and Women as I've been in a long time with the potential both teams have as well as the number of new impact players (not to mention already being emotionally done with the football season given the 0-4 start). Hard to believe it's just six weeks until the season begins.

In a physical game, UVA had 16 shots, and three different Hoos scored goals.

Obviously it is impossible to determine how well our first years, transfers, and second years who had limited playing time will adjust, but we have enough quality returning players to make some projections. It has already been announced that Anderson will move from first base to catcher. O'Ferrall will return to play shortstop again. Didawick will move to centerfield from left field, and Saucke will return in right field. Stephan played left field this summer and will likely play there next spring. A transfer, Whalen, and a first year, Benjamin will be reserves. Perotta, a first year, will likely replace Anderson at first base. Second and third base will probably be manned by returning second years, Godbout and Hanson, and be backed up by newcomers, Ford and Becker.
Pitching is a bit more difficult to project because of the players that left after graduation and/or loss of eligibility. Woolfolk is moving from the bullpen to a starting slot. He could be joined by returning pitchers O'Connor and McKay and/or transfers, Savino and Florenze. Weekend starters and relievers will likely come from third year, Hungate, second years, Blanco, Jaxel, and Dobias, and by Teel, who redshirted last year because of injury. Teel has been hitting well this fall and could see some time as a reserve outfielder as well as a relief pitcher.
We will know a lot more after the blue-white games and the fall exhibition games against Maryland and East Carolina.

For those of you who have coached or know football beyond being a rabid fan, what do you think of Colander's arm strength? As a long time football fan, it looks good to me. He isn't big of course, hence the question, as I am a bit surprised by the arm talent I see. Especially his ability to sling it on the run. Thoughts?
