CavsCorner Hot Board: Monday night update

To expand on what is out there publicly on our Hot Board...

I mentioned in another thread that sources had been extremely quiet over the last 24-32 hours. Well, that drought has subsided. And what I'm told is that the pursuit of Mark Richt continues with positive momentum just as it had prior to Georgia's announcement of his firing. In fact, according to our sources, the Cavaliers are "expecting to have a conversation" with him this week, though not on the same Monday/Tuesday timeframe as things appeared on prior to the UGA decision. The thinking, given the level of talks thus far, is that he does want to coach next year. My sources are still reluctant to give odds or anything of the nature but the information continues to be positive.

That being said, UVa is still, as I've said previously, looking to have multiple conversations. Sources were a bit unclear on exactly what the pecking order behind Richt looks like but suffice to say it's pretty long. At this point, I can tell you that Mike Sanford is on the list but my sources don't see him as a frontrunner yet. Mack Brown is also on the list, probably at or maybe just about Sanford, because the decision makers in this search are point "track record" pretty high up on their wish list. I still expect the other current HC candidates to get a look but there's a little growing momentum for Brown in large part because he's someone who has shown he can do the job. That experience, I'm told, is important. Lastly, Greg Schiano remains a name on the board but nothing at this point that would lead me to believe he's near the top of the list or surging there. Again, his experience could be intriguing but there is a small question about fit. I still have yet to hear enough about him to put him on the actual hot board. Lastly, Jeff Brohm is a guy I think that UVa will likely try to talk to but not until after his team plays in the CUSA title game this weekend.

With that, I'll open the floor for questions...

Q&A Thread...

I'm sure people have a lot of questions about this search and rather than hunting to see if their question has been answered in one of the numerous threads on the topic, I thought for this one specific thread we'll do things a little differently:

You ask, I answer. The only posts in this thread should be questions directed at me or my posts in reply. So please, no comments or opinions on the questions or answers. Don't worry about if it's already been asked or answered. In this thread, ask away and I'll answer.

Fuente to VT

Fuente to VT ESPN reporting. They wanted an "offensive minded current head coach". (That's what I want for us.) Foster to be retained. Great hire IMHO.

Lots of people on this site poopoo'd my idea of canning CML earlier and getting a jump on our next coach. Said that wouldn't help any, we can do behind the scenes searches. Well, you can't hire Fuente before your season's done like they did if you still have a coach like we do.

Fun early season RPI game ...

Ok, it's only a few games in and so one or two games skews everything, but see if you know who stands where at the moment in the RPI by matching teams to rankings (FWIW Hoos at 115 currently according to the four-letter network's RPI rankings).

1.) Ohio State
2.) William and Mary
3.) Cal
4). Oakland

A) 62
B) 85
C) 174
D) 277

I, for one, was shocked when I saw one of these numbers. Someone on the list does not have a top-250 win yet.

Doughty article on his prediction for new coach

I was out of town and away from any computers or using the smart phone and just saw the article that was posted on the 24th of November.

He is calling Mike Sanford Jr. the front runner for the UVA job.

Anyone care to post their thoughts on Mike Sanford Jr.?

He (DD) is selling the legacy pick like Bennett and the success UVA has had for hiring a son of a coach like Tony Bennett and hopes it would work for a hire like Mike Sanford Jr, whose dad is/was a coach.

Things London did right

I bashed him, but some things under him did change.

He repaired the relationship with a lot of coaches not only in the state of Virginia, but most importantly the 757.

Pretty much during his whole tenure how many football players did you hear of who got in trouble? Not that it happened a ton under Groh, but it didn't get worse under London.

We were able to finally get it administration to admit mid-year enrollees which will make it easier for the next coach to bring in guys earlier.

I've been very harsh, but he's a good man and didn't leave the cupboard bare for the next coach. I would like to thank him for being a man who held the integrity of not only the job but the University in high regard.
