The statistics do not tell the story of the Duke game

The stats were almost identical in many regards. Duke rushed for 159 yards, and Virginia had 170 yards. Both teams had 278 yards passing; the leading Duke receiver, Jordan Moore, gained 117 yards on 9 receptions, and Malik Washington had 112 yards on 6 catches. Virginia was able to win in spite of excessive stupid, unnecessary, and imaginary penalties largely because Bettridge made all three of his field goal attempts while the Duke kicker missed one of his three attempts, and the Cavs recorded 2 official defensive turnovers while they did not turn the ball over.

Competitive Football

Say what you will about this year’s team, all but two games UVA was right there. One of those games the starting QB went out on the 1st drive. I know the record is terrible but I’m not sure what I expected but what I did see was a lot of fight from this team.

What does that mean for next year, I guess that depends on who comes back and what they get from the transfer portal but I really believe the defense can be really good and the offense has shown much improvement and they have key pieces currently.

Obviously the last game of the season matters very much!

Balanced scoring

we have FIVE kids averaging 10ppg or just below (9.5 ppg for Bond). Amazing balance on offense

Dunn Beekman McNeeley all aver just over 10 ppg and Goves and Bond just below. Harris is around 3ppg and Rohde is around 6. The number of scoring threats on the floor will make it hard for teams to shut us down

Watching Purdue-Xavier game on FS1. Shout-out to Jason Benetti and Jim Jackson for not only focusing their commentary on the game in front of them, but also offering interesting insights about the strategy and game-flow. It’s been a pleasure to watch even though I don’t particularly care about either team or the result. Night and day viewing experience compared to Friday.

The girls basketball team won again! We had Five ladies in double figures! With three starters still out!

Team is going to be set for a good season. We had one shaky segment of time where our outside D was really lacking but kicked it in gear in the 3qtr and 4th qtr we came close, for the entire 4qtr to getting a shut out on them scoring wise with them only scoring 3 free throws and one layup in the closing minutes during clean up time.

Final: 74- 49 UVA.

Block/ charge rule change

You can really see how the rule change is impacting defense. The off man charge is almost impossible to get called. Gone are the days where off ball defenders can step in last second to draw the charge (Puke specialty) Watched several games and don't know if I have seen a single charge called against an off man trying to draw a charge. Groves positioning in the Florida game would have been a 100% charge call last year, but now is a block.

What troubles me is that the rule change relates to OFF MAN charges, but Harris got called for a block on a CLEAR ON BALL defensive position. He was rightfully upset, as the Florida ballhandler actually used his arm to push Harris away and HARRIS gets the foul. IF the refs are going to tighten up on ball defense by expanding blocking calls, then college hoops will get ugly real quick, as more physical ball handlers will simply roll over kids like Rohde and benefit from the blocking call.

Class of 2026 Wisconsin guard Manchester talks recent visit

Though it seems far off, the 2026 recruiting cycle will be here soon and UVa is already well into the work of identifying talent. @HoustonWilson caught up with 2026 Wisconsin guard Josh Manchester to talk about his recent visit and what he took away.
