Preview: Hoos head to Raleigh hoping to solve road woes

Preview: UVa hopes its results on the road tomorrow are very different than what happened to the Wahoos away from home last Saturday. @justin ferber has our breakdown of the matchup against NC State (2 p.m., ACC Network).

2024 additions to the Virginia football team

I have attempted to add our 2024 high school commitments and our transfers by position . The latest information that I could find indicates that Virginia now has 20 projected additions. These are QB 1, WR 4, TE 2, OL 4, DE 3, LB 1, and DB 5. This number does not cover the losses through graduation and the transfer portal. While there are a number of additions that are likely to receive immediate playing time, it seems that there are several positions that are in the need of starters or playable depth. I found no running backs or defensive tackles and only 1 linebacker. I have always felt that success on the field begins with being to run up the middle on offense and to stop the run up the middle on defense. For this reason, the lack of additions at these three positions is disconcerting. I do not know who or how many players at these positions we are recruiting. but I find it difficult to get excited about improvement on the field unless what I perceive to be problem areas are met.

Primer: Breaking down UVa's 2025 targets

With calendars set to turn to 2024 this weekend, UVa’s focus in the 2025 recruiting cycle has begun to take shape. @HoustonWilson has our primer for who to know and where things stand for the Wahoos.

Beekman and others lead Virginia to a 77 - 53 victory over Louisville

Beekman was the fourth highest scorer for the Cavs with 11 points but assisted on 8 of the baskets scored by others and added 3 steals on defense. McKneely was the leading scorer with 18 points on 4 of 7 from three point range. Dunn added 15 points and made 7 of 8 shots from the field. Murray came off the bench to score 12 by making 5 of his 6 shots. The team out rebounded Louisville with 9 offensive and a total 34 rebounds and were led by Dunn with 10 and Groves with 9.
The score differential would likely have been larger if the officials had called a few moving picks on Louisville and less questionable (by me) touch fouls on the home team.

Cold shooting spells doom for Virginia against Notre Dame

I hate losing at anything. Since I was at Virginia and witnessed our 28 game losing streak in football and less than pleasant results in other sports, i should better tolerate coming up short, but I am upset when I lose at Solitaire or Hearts or other games on my computer. For this reason I usually delay expressing my opinions about games that we have lost, but it is important to attempt to gain some understanding of the reasons why we lost. To my eyes the reason was mostly poor shooting. The strength of our team is thought by most to be our back court, but our three starting guards made 7 of 19 attempted two point shots, 2 of 11 three point shots, and 7 of 12 foul shots. We had 10 assists and 11 turnovers. We were outrebounded 40 to 27, but the 13 differential was all on the defensive boards because we missed so many shots. Notre Dame shot UMBC well, and I did not feel that we played poorly on defense. I know that our players are capable of better shooting than was evident yesterday. For this reason I still hold out hope that better shooting will lead to positive results in the final scores.

We are a 500 team

I said a few weeks ago this was a 500 team. Most thought I was crazy. Here's what I see and saw. We can't rebound, we don't shoot well and can't make free throws, we have no inside on offense or defense so people just push us outside to shoot hard threes and we can't score inside. We are weak physically and maybe mentally. We show no fight. Other than that we are fine. I hope I am wrong but tell me how what I see isn't what we are and will continue to be.

Women's Game vs NC State

If you are somewhere near a TV the women's game is worth a watch, we are up 32-31 over #3 NC State at halftime. Really competitive game, neither team is shooting well (we are 10-36), but lots of intensity and playing at a fast pace. NC State had two players called for T's by saying "And 1" on back to back possessions which was really strange.

JAN 30th

This is my approach now , on JAN 30th exactly one month form today if there is no sign of any positive progress in any of the eye opening weakness that I witnessed today ,then I will put this down as what it is now , and that is growing pains or Jelling pains ,will make NCAAI JUST GOTTA FEELING.

FSU votes to file a lawsuit against the ACC

FSU Board of Trustees have voted to file a lawsuit against the ACC. The complaint will be filed today. Some highlights from their Board meeting:

FSU lawyer says ESPN contract not guaranteed beyond 2027, despite GOR going until 2036 (new public info). The lawyer said Jim Phillips agreed to give ESPN until February of 2025 to decide if it wants to extend its contract with the ACC past 2027.

FSU also notes that it would cost over 500 million to exit the ACC under the GOR.

LION'S coach, agree or not agree?

In first half he has an easy FG trailing 7-3. Tries for it from the 4 on 4th and goal and fails. End of the game, his tackle fails to report on a two point try to go ahead by one instead of kicking to tie wiping out a pass to him to 2 points. After an offsides on Dallas he still tries for 2 again from the 4 and fails again. I would have take the early points. I also would have kicked the point for OT at the end. What do you folks think? I think Campbell is Riverboat Ron on steroids and not the brightest in this situation, especially early on not taking the easy 3.

Class of 2024 baseball commitments

Virginia has received verbal commitments from 12 baseball players. This group includes 3 (SS, 3B, and RHP) who are ranked in the top 35 players, 3 more pitchers ranked between 100 and 199, and 4 players (2 SS, OF, and C) ranked between 200 and 299. I expect that we will once again be active in the transfer market in order to add pitchers and other positions of need.

Virginia shakes off some dust and rust to defeat Morgan State 79 - 44

After playing just two games in the previous three weeks Virginia defeated the short-handed Morgan State team. Beekman again led the Hoos with 17 points and 7 assists. Rhode, Groves, and Bond each scored 10 points, while Dunn led the team with 10 rebounds. Virginia made 10 of 23 3 point shots but only 5 of 11 free throws. The gap in scoring was aided by forcing 19 turnovers and recording 13 steals and 7 blocks. I hope that in the future we can adjust the schedule to shorten the time between games.
