Now in 2025, big man Houser talks recruiting, UVa

Now that he’s in the class of 2025, big man Justin Houser has seen his recruitment start to pick up. @HoustonWilson caught up with the Keystone State product to talk about that decision, what he’s heard from #UVa, why the Hoos stand out, and much more.

Preview: Hoos head to Memphis tomorrow for first true road game

Preview: No. 22 UVa hits the road for its first true road game of the season in an intriguing matchup at likely-to-be-ranked Memphis tomorrow night (7 p.m., ESPN2). @justin ferber has our breakdown of the tilt between the Hoos and the Tigers.

Poor shooting plagued both of our teams today, but the men found a way to win

The women fell to Wofford 71-70primarily because they were just 4 of 23 on their 3-point shots. We won the battle on the boards 45 to 27 but were unable to overcome the 33 to 12 point disparity on the deep shots. The men were slightly worse in making just 2 of 14 shots from behind the arc and 10 of 18 foul shots. The men made up for the deficit with their defense by forcing 8 steals and 17 turnovers. Beekman led the Hoos with a career high 21 points and combined with Rohde for 11 of our 13 assists while committing just 1 turnover. Virginia led the scoring for just 4 minutes and 2 seconds, but most of those seconds were at the end of the game to produce a 56 to 54 win.

Gertrude

After watching todays game , I started thinking about how excited I was for the season to start , I remember posting about how this was going to be a really exciting season, with the addition of the new players . I honestly thought that if this team put things together on defense that we would be a lock for the elite 8 . Now that CTB has taking the redshirt off of Gertrude , and I am glad that it was stated on tv that CTB was already thinking of doing this prior to Harris getting hurt. Now that we are 7-1 and it is DEC 2nd barring multiple injuries, when we get to late Feb we should be looking to get a 1 seed and nothing less than a final 4 , with a chance to take an NCAA title home again. This team is the closets thing that we have had to the 2019 team , scoring wise, but like I said if they can gel on defense and defense travels , we will be a top 5 team for sure. Now bring on the SKEPTICS !!! LOL......... Oh yea was just curious about Mr Traudt , after looking at his stats I would not give up one of our starting 9 for him to come back . I am sure that his numbers may change by the end of the year but as of now not impressive as some thought that he might be . GO HOOS !!!

Big fan of girl's BB team and they got flat out played today by a lesser team. Defensive hustle is lacking down the stretch. Too many blow by layups

I'm a big fan of the Ladies Basketball team, but if I had to be brutally honest, we have way too many lead feet, slow girls on especially defense. This wofford girls were blowing by out girls like they were in 1st or 2nd and they were in higher gears.

Even skinny girls like Clark were being blown around and don't know why she stopped on D and let her step around and throw up a prayer shot that went in. Clark also was dragging her feet out to the three and their girls were making her and others pay for not coming out to guard them.

Coach Mox has got to get these girls in shape and improve their lateral skills that are not that good. Too many heavy set girls that can't run, defend and frankly are slow against an average athletic team. This was a lesser 6-4 team and we look like a pick up team at the park most of the day. Too many bad turnovers and tons of blow by layups, where our defenders stopped defending.

Sorry even skinny players like Clark looked slow or stopped hustling out to the 3 pt line leaving her player wide open numerous times for easy 3s down the stretch in the late minutes.

Did you see those girls out Clowning and doing the Rick Flare scream out on the court and chest bumping as UVA girls walked off with no expression. Can't believe Clark stopped when she was in front of her on her drive and allowed this girl to step around and throw up that scoop shot to win it. She had her cut off and stopped at the wrong time.

Coach! Get these girls in shape and work on their lateral skill footwork. Sorry but Burnelle has put on weight and has become slow on D and lost several steps on O. Not just cause of knee injuries or leg; weight.

OT: Quick question for Saturday...

I wanted to put a call out on the board and see if somebody could help us out.

The Hoos get back from their exam break on Saturday night against Northeastern. The game is set to tip off at 6. Unfortunately, both myself and Ferber will be unable to do updates here on the board.

Would anyone be willing to post those for us? I'd rather it be someone who is going to post throughout versus just everybody posting scores constantly. We typically do the media timeouts with the time/score and anything else that's interesting. I'll start the game thread that night and then let the (very kind) volunteer take over from there.

If you're going to be watching from home (JPJ service is pretty spotty sometimes) and would be interested in helping us out, answer below.

Thanks in advance!

Army-Navy game

Navy' coach apparently went to the Mike London school of Time Out and clock management and decision making - some really dumb losses of TOs because his team could not get punts off on time and also a poor decision with seconds to go down one score from the two yard line where he tried a QB sneak/push up the middle and they were stopped short.. Additionally, down 14 he scores a TD and he goes for two for some odd reason and it is not successful leaving them down 8..

Bronco

Putting the band back together. Just hired Howell and wonder who will be next…..Dr Bob and 2J? An article indicated that Carla who had a relationship with the NM AD endorsed Bronco and also seemed to confirm that he left UVa because he wouldn’t fire his DC….who he just rehired
